I think as remake goes on, and its audience shrinks, it will only get more defensive and less reasonable. It's like the XIII trilogy all over again. I could entertain the idea that Rebirth could be just a bad game that i really like, but then when you see /v/ threads and the games that get overrated/overhyped, you see that this isnt about what game is good or bad, it is what pleases /v/.
Look at metaphor (yes, im bringing metaphor because it is the most recent game). For me, it is a mediocre game but i never treated it like a bad game, just a game that genuinely isnt for me and i could name all of its flaws. Got a question does anyone else get the impression that Final Fantasy Remake as a whole is a failure for Square Enix?

Even with the first part when Square Enix said it sold seven million physical copies I doubted that. I just don't feel....convinced.

To me it seems like Square Enix is lying about how successful Final Fantasy 7 Remake is. And worse Square Enix said that there's interest in more FF7 spin offs after Remake. But I doubt there's interest in those. Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core's remaster with the new graphics didn't wow people.

As an individual my only take is that Square Enix is lying about how successful FF7 is as a general brand because once the final part is released the house of cards will crumble. And I don't think Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest are enough to justify the Square Enix gaming division existing. And you have to remember that Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest aren't FULLY owned by Square Enix either money is divided on those franchises compared to Final Fantasy which SE gets all the profit.

What angers me about the new Aerith's Death is that so many fanboys are defending it saying "Aerith died see Cloud is a schizophrenic who is imagining she's alive!" Except we have two different characters confirming that Aerith is still "lively" sort of speak. The first is Sephiroth who admits after killing her that he underestimated her and Aerith is indeed actively fighting against Sephiroth in the new original boss fight. So that can't be an illusion. And then we have Nanaki sniffing out Aerith's presence in the final CG scene and we know Nanaki is not a schizo.

So I don't buy into this bullshit about Aerith being dead when we know alternate realities do exist this time around. Hell we see Cloud and a living Zack team up to fight this new Sephiroth boss battle as well. So please don't say Aerith is dead given all this stuff pointing otherwise.

Both games completely fall to shit and undermine their own plots. but stillbirth falls to shit immediately because all it does is systematically ruin every great moment for the OG with garbage, idiotic and childish writing. While E33 takes until at least half way to start really getting shit and ruining its own plot.
E33 custcenes are for the most part well directed with good dialogue and characters that feel like real people with intelligence and feelings.

Funnily enough, I don't even think the FF7 Remake games are outright bad. They do plenty that is interesting and fun. But it hits such a weird, unappealing spot for pretty much any audience out there. It's confusing to new players, frustrating for old players, and with how it's being stretched as much as possible, it's dragging the whole thing out to the point where even those who do enjoy them are still waiting years in between.

It just makes me sad honestly, no angry at this point. I was one of those people that essentially just wanted something akin to the REmake on the Gamecube. Better graphics, cleaned up writing/gameplay mechanics, maybe some new areas and bosses. That's it. Not a trilogy that tries to tie every single bit of side story nonsense in while also adding a layer of multiversal shit to it.

It wasn't needed. Plain and simple.

the original was not written like an anime. characters were written like real people. it had some subtle light hearted humor but never strayed too far into anime cringe.
7R is made for babies. it's writing is lower integrity than saturday morning slop like naruto or pokemon and it's characters are objectively way stupider and cringier than the OG. not only are they stupider, they are insufferable cheese balls with sanitized baby dialogue.
7R characters are so cartoonishly stupid Cloud, Tifa and Aerith walk right up to the turks in Junon and the turks don't recognize them despite their faces being fully visible.

Only problem with Rebirth's combat is the encounter design. If they fix all the cheap ass enemies that stunlock and one shot you it'd be almost perfect. Also add Hard Mode from the begining because the default difficulty is pretty braindead most of the time.

It's frustrating that Square finally made a system similar to the one shown in those old Versus XIII trailers, it's just in a game with a million other problems.

What's interesting is the combat director is a newish hire poached from Capcom. I get the feeling that the old guard in SE are holding everyone back.

the game needs a skill based mode like no EXP 'lvl 1' and clamped damage values that are never too high or too low.

not "Dynamic difficulty" because this is disappointing garbage design. all it does is make enemies more powerful without properly balancing the damage values to be consistent and well designed for a perfect fight length.
