I do, yeah. I genuinely think it adds a huge amount to RPGs especially. It's a great way to help the player feel more immersed in the world, to be invested in the characters, and to add stakes to their goals. It also makes for a lot of replayability to see the different kinds of relationships and how they can play out in the end. I know there's a vocal group that hate when games have romance aspects, but then you look at some of the most popular/still discussed games to this day, and they often have some kind of romance. Not every game has to have it, nor is it appropriate for every story, but it really can add to the experience.

It's why I think the new trailer for Outer Worlds 2 is fucking hilarious honestly. They're introducing all the different companions and then make it a point to say you can't sleep with them. As if that was some big selling point to have less interaction with your companions you'll be traveling the galaxy with. Regardless of what opinions people have her about it, Baldur's Gate 3 benefited immensely from having in-depth romance systems and is still talked about because of them even more than the actual gameplay/story. I don't really get the idea of advertising the lack of romance in a game.

>Doesn't appeal to purists who wanted the same game but remade with modern graphics
>Doesn't appeal to new players since it has tons of moments that make little sense without some knowledge of the original/extended entries
>Doesn't appeal to casuals since it still has goofy JRPG writing and moments, arguably more than the original
>Doesn't appeal to turn-based RPG fans
>Barely appeals to action fans with the weird middle ground of combat it has
>Doesn't appeal to the average consumer who will need to buy 3 separate games to have a complete experience, all of which are spread over a decade, possibly more

Funnily enough, I don't even think the FF7 Remake games are outright bad. They do plenty that is interesting and fun. But it hits such a weird, unappealing spot for pretty much any audience out there. It's confusing to new players, frustrating for old players, and with how it's being stretched as much as possible, it's dragging the whole thing out to the point where even those who do enjoy them are still waiting years in between.

It just makes me sad honestly, no angry at this point. I was one of those people that essentially just wanted something akin to the REmake on the Gamecube. Better graphics, cleaned up writing/gameplay mechanics, maybe some new areas and bosses. That's it. Not a trilogy that tries to tie every single bit of side story nonsense in while also adding a layer of multiversal shit to it.

It wasn't needed. Plain and simple.

Looking back, he could’ve made a fuckton of money just talking about currently airing anime. If he had leaned into making his usual slop, he'd be fine right now. Half his content's locked behind a membership. Gotta wonder why he never took the time to make a full-on series ripping into anime slop. He had a solid format in that SAO video; it was easy money just sitting there. And ffs why does he need to rape his channel and could have opened another one to post whatever he wanted

My uncle is a fan of football. Has a whole get together with a half dozen other guys to watch superbowl shit. The guy is a bloated mess that's never once played football, and likely hasn't run more than a minute in his life. But he hangs out with all the others, sharing in wins, discussing bets, all that nonsense.

I'd say he's a fan. I never felt that he had to play football to be part of that "fandom". He's a sports fan through and through. It's never been a requirement to actually play the sport, at least in that community. Why does it have to be one in this community?

>>715841148
Last I checked sports are meant to be played. Yes, they can be a spectacle, but you have no sports without someone putting hands on a ball or bat. Every comparison to mentioned is the same as games. Games have been turned into more of a spectacle these days, with games solely designed to be streamer-bait or even involve audiences. No one argues about people being sports fans because they aren't running a field. At least I never see that "fanbase" get fussy about that distinction. I only really see that nitpicking in vidya, which is strange when it may as well be the same kind of tribalism, dedication, and elitism you see in other hobbies just like sports.

Again, just seems like a silly distinction to essentially pull a "not a real fan" argument. Which then goes even further at times into absurdity. You used an item in a game to beat it? Not a real fan, didn't experience it properly. You played it years after it came out? Not a real fan, you didn't join the original community. It's nonsense and spirals into a weird direction I feel.
