People complain so much about Flynn when all the documents show its Iizuka and SoJ placing a bunch of restrictions, he even talked about it in his podcast about how he's legally required to write Amy and Shadow a certain way (in Amy's case: particularly avoid making her crush for Sonic overtly-explicit, something he's expressed not liking very much).

Flynn has all the quirky flaws in writing which I agree with a lot of people but at the same time I think the guy who came up with the idea for Sonic to go SSJ2 and do a Shun Goku Satsu on the endgame boss as a QTE has far bigger ambitions than what SEGA allows him to do, ESPECIALLY after the Penders debacle.
