Do you think it's acceptable for a developer to take almost 2 (TWO) decades to develop the next installment in a franchise? Taking into consideration of course that that developer/publisher have 0 financial troubles, and the franchise itself is very popular and lucrative.

>Elder Scrolls Online
Not a BGS game.

>Fallout 76
Complete waste of time, and the type of game that is Fallout 76 is completely against what Fallout is. The only reason "Fallout" brand is attached to that game is because of brand recognition. Terrible game. And I'm not some boomer who hates online games.

>Starfield
This proved that BGS cannot develop decent games without having established lore. Starfield is actually a decent game, but the world and lore are horrific. Capeshit multiverse story? Really? In 20 fucking 23?

They should stick to making Fallout and TES games.

Skyrim to Fallout 4 was 4 years. Fallout 4 to FO76 was 3 years. FO76 to Starfield was 5 years. ESO is irrelevant as it's a different studio.
So, really, they'll be on schedule if they drop Elder Scrolls VI either next year or the year after.
The real problem was announcing it in fucking 2018, and FO76 being a MMO instead of a proper singleplayer RPG and Starfield being shit. So it feels like they've wasted a good decade on nothing appealing.

I think the problem we're running to is devs aren't reusing assets as much. Take Owlcat, we're getting another game in the style of Rogue trader, Owlcat said they're redoing all the assets to make them look better. But why? Seriously, they'd easily cut out up to a year of dev time without that shit.

Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 just made more assets in the same style, Bethesda could have done the same for Elder Scrolls or at the very least shit out more dlc in the vein of Dragonborn with new lands.

Like I said, I think mechanically Starfield is probably BGS' best game, but I could not stand Starfield's universe. It's fucking stupid. It brought the game from a 7/10 to a 0/10 for me. I cannot fathom how you have the possibility to establish this new world with conflict and intrigue and Starfield's story is what you come up with. Compare Starfield's world and story to Mass Effect and it becomes laughable.

You can land there and gather resources, but it's a barren desert with a few bases scattered here and there. I think the main quests makes you visit Mars, but I'm not sure I remember that correctly.

>Venus
I don't think you can land here, but I'm not sure. I don't remember ever landing there.

>E.T
If you consider fauna and creatures ET, then yes, if you consider intelligent aliens ET like in Mass Effect, then no. I think the game hints at an old, advanced civilization, but I don't think the game talks much about that.

This is just what I remember, but the game and universe is so forgettable that I just might be wrong.

NTA, but one thing I will say regarding BGS, TES, and Fallout is that if another developer makes something in the TES and Fallout series, I will need them to make those games using BGS' engine and tools. I've said this before many times, and I will continue to say it: one of the few good things about BGS' games is the way their games feel. A BGS game is a unique game, when you play one, you immediately know you're playing a BGS game. And there is nothing out there that plays or feels like it. That's a very good thing, especially now when games are losing their identity and it's just this soulless and faceless UE slop everywhere that all plays the same.

I would need something similar to Obsidian and New Vegas back in 2010. Obsidian created a BGS feeling game, but with genuinely good writing and RPG mechanics.

This is basically inevitable. Bethesda no longer has any focus in their games because they insist on shoving in a half-baked version of the sims with crafting into everything they make. This, plus the unjust and pointless firing of Jeremy Soule due to a false accusation from the goblin in pic related mean that TESVI is dead on arrival, and Bethesda is essentially a dead studio.

The entire gaming industry would as a whole benefit if they let more studios touch their precious IPs.
Look at Bubsy. Instead of sitting on the character and doing nothing, they're giving it to a studio that actually has experience in making platformers and it doesn't look like complete dogshit. Look at Obsidian and New Vegas. Look at Zelda getting a necrodancer spinoff and a warriors spinoff. Sonic Mania. TES is the perfect candidate for getting something similar but all we have is a MMORPG and shitty mobile games.

You know what's crazy, is that they easily could, they just won't. Players actually want LESS. Players are begging BGS to remove pointless time wasters like settlement crafting, NPC management, resource gathering, ship building, and procedurally generated content in favor of giving them a focused game that specializes in immersion, exploration, choices and adventure. But BGS is too chickenshit to remove any system they introduced in a previous game because of the sunk cost fallacy, and the fact that removing systems would probably piss off the braindead tranny who built them.

Literally all they need to do is make a good open world with decent (not even good, decent) combat, exploration that rewards the player, and core systems that are fun and feel worthwhile to engage with. But I have a feeling deep down in my bones they're not going to do this and instead overload the game with extra features nobody asked for while simplifying the core aspects that people actually like about TES even further.

Here's the thing: I think the premise of the game is something that could've been quite intriguing and interesting. Starfield hints at this ancient, advanced civilization that created these unknown artifacts scattered throughout space. I think they could've made the first game this slow burner that is empty on purpose to set up this new franchise and new world. Something similar to how Mass Effect starts out small but then explodes into something much bigger. Starfield is literally fucking capeshit multiverse. That's what theoretically the Beyond Skyrim people are doing, they're just taking 15 fucking years to do so and being so abysmally bad at communicating that even reddit is turning against them. But yes, just like New Vegas is beloved despite looking like and being made out of 80% of Fallout 3 assets, had Bethesda known just how fucking big Skyrim would become they themselves could've just released DLC after DLC for a straight decade, and people would've bought them. Imagine getting an official Dragonborn-sized expansion every year, instead they wasted time with Fallout 4 and fucking Starfield and pissed away all good will the idea of Creations could've remotely had by making shit ones for years.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, they should've let some side studio make an Adventures/Redguard sequel as a discount Uncharted clone. Ten to fitfteen hours, a bunch of pulpy action climbing around and exploring parts and historical locations in Tamriel you'd never ever see in a mainline game, boom. Instead we get fucking Legends and Castles and shit.

>mechanically Starfield is probably BGS' best game
Then you have zero fucking clue about game mechanics.
It literally had no gameplay. None. It was all about the numbers in your gun and the numbers in the enemy armor. No tactics, no dodging, no thinking. Just bookkeeping.

>it was le good le mechanically!
Shut the fuck up and start actually playing videogames. Get a clue.

That;s cause most of the times aside from Cyrodiil are a mess. The mods of that sub remove the majority of "leaks" but I will say that the Morrowind and Illiac Bay teams are just a hodgepodge of gay fan fic artists and a couple modelers but nobody to implement.

Hearthfire was basically a predecessor to Fallout 4's settlement building, so yeah. If TES6 really does take place in Hammerfell/the Iliac Bay, don't be surprised if there's (sea)ship building mechanics like Starfield's (space)ship building mechanics

Mainline Elder Scrolls is more popular than mainline Fallout by a huge margin. Bethesda is retarded for taking more than a decade to release a new Elder Scrolls while prioritizing Fallout instead.

I would not be surprised if Todd finds a way to run out the clock with whatever deal he has with m$ without releasing it to avoid tanking his legacy and/or not meeting targets for his golden parachute, after which he retires and it never releases at all and the mainline series is dead and m$ just whores out the license for a bunch of spin offs

why do people that have only played one videogame, and have terminally poor taste, get so defensive over their one videogame, and assume anyone that disregards it must be a seething stew of fury, rather than just someone with taste matter-of-factly saying they didn't care for an objectively garbage, shallow, boring product
anyways skyrimslobs killing themselves would be massively better for the industry because bethesda would be out of business essentially overnight, but one can only dream

I don't think spin offs are still a thing in the industry at all. Companies would rather not do anything at all with an IP than make a cheaper installment. Maybe a f2p mobile collectathon is in the cards but spin offs don't have a home on consoles anymore.

They made the mistake of making Starfield and half of the team is still trying to fix it. If they had made ES VI it would've been out by now and Fallout 6 would be in development for two years now and be out by 2027-2028. But because they went with Starfield ES VI is at minimum 2+ years away and Fallout 6 around 2035-2037. The Fallout TV show would be long done, missing out on the hype on releasing a new Fallout game. Bethesda bet on the wrong horse with Starfield.

Maybe i'm being pedantic or using an outdated definition of "spin off" but to me that would be like the Revelations or Chronicles games of the Resident Evil series. A smaller game with different mechanics that is meant to keep the fanbase happy while the proper sequel is still in development. And i don't see that happening with either Fallout nor Elder Scrolls. Especially since they already have ESO and F76.

They don't even need good combat
Morrowind combat is ass without mods to make NPCs more intelligent (no this isn't whining about Morrowind's to hit chance combat. I actually like the system rewarding you for using weapons you're skilled st
Oblivion combat is ass because the weapons are floaty and have no impact
Skyrim combat is ass because the weapons/movement is slow as shit and have no impact
But they're fine because TES games have always been a masterclass of adventure in an immersive world that takes itself relatively seriously
People still discuss the Nerevarine prophecy and stuff like "is Dagoth Ur really the original person or is he a construction of the heart of Lorkhan", the death of Vivec and the red year
People still reference Oblivion's outstanding guild and side questlines and continue loving places like the painted world and requirements to join guilds. (I'm even of the controversial opinion that Oblivion's guild content completely destroys Morrowind's from a questing perspective because Morrowind guilds are fucking boring as shit fetch quests)
People still debate Imperials vs Stormcloaks and things like killing Paarthurnax today, the towers of the world and whether the Altmer can succeed even now
TES has cemented itself as one of the biggest fantasy names in the world and it hasn't even released a game since 2011. If they went out and allowed fan/third party works it'd unironically likely end up rivaling the likes of Sanderson or Rothfuss

On one hand, waiting 18~ years for the next game is ridiculous. On the other, it releasing sooner would've probably meant it would've had the same huge issues that Fallout 4 and Fallout: Space Edition had. If those games coming first means there's a 3% chance of TRS VI learning from it I'll take it.
