I have two decent arcades near me that I visit. One has a lot of imports. Lots of rhythm games, and then a good block of candy cabs. It isn't the best maintained though, often times the lightgun games aren't working properly.

The other one is a retro arcade, a lot of stuff from the 70s and 80s. All original hardware; it's cool playing paperboy with the bicycle handles and shit like that. They have a few 90s games, which is where I spend most of my time.

Both arcades have Dodonpach DOJ Black Label for some reason. I should try to get good at it.

I went to mine all the time and don't really miss it desu. Went through the dark ages (2002-2008) and it still survived until 2013 I think.

There was no real reason to go near the end and it was fighting games mostly, no novelty, no redemption machines, no racing games etc. just some sit down cabinets and other stand up machines no one played (schmups and puzzle games). Only went for the fighting games.

It wasn't a nice arcade, just grungy but had good times there. pic unrelated.

Anyway, arcades were fine but I miss the social aspect of gaming moreso than I do the actual building. LANs, 4+way local co-op/deathmatch or just simple controller passing will always beat meeting and fighting randoms over the Internet. It's a great way to bond with friends and make new ones (or lose them if they're salty bitches).


The 1-2 punches of losing with people as you get older and more busy with real world shit, the lack of actual places to meet and socialize with people post social meda and post COVID and the normalization of raw convenience over new experiences have made me crave the common social experiences of yesteryear when it comes to not just vidya, but hobbies like gutiar playing and other shit like that. It's hard meeting new people nowadays and it's not for lack of trying on my part.
