Hell even when Japan does gore they go full body horror and do shit that can get your gut churning with the west it’s just gore for the sake of gore, there’s no build up. Even something like Higurashi’s nail pulling scene did it better since you have a slow burn and really taking the time to set the mood.It’s like porn in a way.

You're looking at 80,000 yen minimum in rent for a small flat in Tokyo. In the inaka you could get one for 30,000 yen (which is what my friend who lives in the middle of nowhere pays for his if we accept anecdotal evidence).

I live on the Chuo line, 10 minutes away from my station and rent is 90.000 for 2LDK which I share with my wife.
I'm not sure if it'll totally make up the difference but from what I've heard car maintenance is expensive and you often have to pay for parking space even if it's attached to your apartment. There's yearly checks, insurance, all that shit. Hell, just the additional time in managing it is probably more expensive than my Tokyo rent. And I haven't even included the gas it needs to actually run.
I really don't think the difference is as big as people make it out to be.
