For me I do think it's an ADHD/Autsim thing. Movies can be kind of overstimulating, like sensory overload. It can be exhausting to have to deal with emotions of characters or a story. Video essays about something I'm interested in is relaxing because it keeps my interest but doesn't overstimulate me with anything too surprising or challenging.

I find it odd to watch someone break down a series I haven't played yet because they'd just ruin the entire thing for me. It's much more interesting to watch something like that when you have experienced the game and know exactly what they're talking about.

In some cases it makes you appreciate the game more. I honestly love checking story breakdowns when I'm done with a game just to see if there was anything I missed or development histories/cut content of games just to see how much work went into them.

On top of the issues with focus and executive function there can be chronic physical/mental fatigue, issues identifying/understanding what you're feeling, dissociative/depersonalization/derealization making you numb/disconnected to the world around you, etc.

It's all worse if you've hit burnout at some point too. It happened to me and now I never feel like I'm in the headspace or have the energy/mental capacity to properly focus and enjoy a movie or show or game so I turn to less meaningful content. Just something I can zone out to but still kind of satisfies that itch and quiets down the buzzing inside my skull.

On the surface, YIIK seems like the kind of game that was made directly for me; It's influences by many games and series that I love. You should look online and hear from people how meds have helped people. I have a cousin who's been through the military, bootcamp and grueling work, all that "discipline" drilled into him and even he's told me he can't hold down a job without stimulants.
There's also non-stimulant medication but different meds don't work for different people where others will. After watching and skimming over a few, you realize video essays are a shit format for retards who are either too lazy or autistic to find a podcast that they like for background noise. 'Essay' and white noise should not be in the same sentance together, if half the appeal is not paying attention, then it's not an essay, it's just pointless ramble.

Actual kino are those 10-20 minute videos on one specific niche topic with actual intersting information and little fluff to pad out the runtime.
