Some ability and ability unlocks.
So, this game doesn't have a tree so much as it has a bunch of lines. The clan you pick gets its abilities in a straight line for cheap, but you can go to the left and the right to get abilities from the other clans for a way more expensive price (Gets more expensive the more removed from your clan it is)

This means that even if you don't select either of the two DLC clans, you are still missing out on ability selections if you're playing the default version.

Gliding and more combat

Hard to see in these webms, but when you hold right click with the mouse, it lets you select one of your 4 active abilities. While you do this, time is slowed down. Speech and other sound is slowed down too. That does remind me of Dishonored.

I'm not too blackpilled yet or anything but the combat is I dunno

I skipped most dialogue but here's some. I'll be honest, for the most part, based on what was shown, I like the writing of this game. I also think the plot that they show is somewhat compelling. Pleasantly surprised.

Two other abilities. Again, these are from the other clans because they're not in the vertical line. You can also see the costs for them, they need the special types of bloods. Some of them also require talking with specific NPCs to unlock.

You have melee attacks, you have some spells, you have guns, that's about it. The game is an immersive sim so it has a lot of sovl and atmosphere and is just all in all cool, combat is neat but that's about it.

You can just change your appearance on the fly. Not your face or anything, but eye color, clothes, piercings, etc.

Alright, so one last thing, onto the Malkavians.

I thought that they had gotten cucked out of this game because they were complicated.

Turns out, that's not the whole story.

First off, in the plot of this game, you have a Malkavian noir style detective talking in your head all the time. He's a sort of narrator and exposition guy that is a contrast to your character's "Elder cool" type guy. I like the dynamic and like his dialogue.

Turns out, the game also has flashback segments where you play as this dude. So, in truth, every playthrough of this game is gonna have full Malkavian segments. They just decided to add the Malkavian stuff on top. As you can see in this webm, this guy has his own abilities. From what was shown on stream, they are very non freeform and are to be used at specific places where the developers thought of including them. This sort of feels like a point and click game or walking simulator game added on top of the proper game itself.

Playing as this guy seems like it's way more of a dialogue heavy kind of thing. There was not even any combat shown with him, and none of the abilities seem aimed towards it.

..meh... I dunno. Can you at least get blood while out of combat like in the proper first game? Hell consuming blood points at all on tabletop is a CHANCE to happen, with enough good character building you can be pretty damn blood efficient.

So, there you have it.

My thoughts are that this game actually does look kind of interesting, but it's not VTMB 2 at all, really. I'm a fan of Chinese Room (Enjoyed Still Wakes the Deep, for example) and I'm choosing to treat this as a more complex Chinese Room game rather than a sequel to VTMB. I'll probably pirate it and play it, as long as the reviews aren't too terrible.

The masquerade is falling apart. It's a core theme of the game. But you are basically just ripping and tearing and as long as nobody sees you do it directly and lives to talk about it, it's all good.

The story, characters, and dialogue/dialogue choices are all great. The original game has dialogue that consists on NPCs staring directly at you and infodumping exposition. It's actually one of the reasons VTMB2 got into trouble under Hardsuit. All they'd managed to make was a series of completely aimless quests full on NPCs spouting paragraphs and none of it was taking the story anywhere.

I personally predict that VTMB2's Damsel is going to immediately be more beloved than 1's. I have no proof of this, just a feeling.

The issue isn't the dialogue presentation. VTMB2's Fabien sections mimics the way VTMB1 NPCs talked. The problem is that while the acting was really good, and 1 has a lot of really good quests, it's glaring how many quests in VTMB1 are you pressing 1 to say a generic line, and then the NPC spouts 10 back to back lines of overbearing exposition at you;. Then you pick from 1 or 2 dialogue options. This does not make 1 a bad game. It's a really good game. But I think that from what I've seen 2 improves on it sometimes. It has more interesting and dynamic conversations. Characters seem a bit less one dimensional.

"the Beast" is part of the Humanity system which is basically just a Morality system. It's an incentive for players to be nice because a major theme of the setting is maintaining your humanity while being a monster, and most editions have you playing a young/new vampire. Contrarily most Elders in the setting are extremely low on Humanity because they've lived so long that they barely even think like humans do anymore. Older vampires with high Humanity are extremely rare.

They can be at 1/10 Humanity and still function in normal Kindred society. It just means you're a huge shit bag. The Prince from BL1 was probably a 3/10 on the Humanity track, maybe 2/10. But these older vampires are much, much better at controlling themselves and riding that line. And in this game you play an Elder. So you don't really give a fuck about scrambling up walls or ripping hinges off doors. And if someone happens to witness it you're ABSURDLY strong, enough to wipe their memory or feed them into a stupor or whatever.

The only reason anyone gives a fuck about the Masquerade in general is because the Camarilla have been the major ruling body for the past thousand years and if you break their rules they'll send a sheriff up your anus.
