hey
I haven't really played videogames in a while but I used to play a lot of space combat sims
Here are some I really liked off the top of my head
Wing commander (all, but especially 3, 4, and privateer)
Tachyon the Fringe (it's probably not as good as freespace but Bruce campbell is pretty hilarious and the gameplay/graphics were top notch at the time)
I-war / independence war 2 (very similar to free space/freelancer)
Freelancer/starlancer
As far as new games go, I really liked everspace 2 (and the first one but they're very different, first one is a roguelite, 2nd one is more akin to freespace 3)
And also house of the dying sun (more wing commander ish)
S.P.A.Z. might actually scratch an itch, or Starsector, but they're not the same cool 3d perspective and don't give the same feelings as say wing commander prophecy...
The x series is really good but it's kind of a slow burn. X3/X4 especially.
Rebel Galaxy is pretty cool and unique
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is basically a remake of wing commander privateer... So I love it, but it's a big departure from the other rebel galaxy so a lot of people didn't like the changes. But it's an amazing game especially for what it is, but it's relatively "simpler" compared to some of these others. Very moddable though. And great soundtrack.
I guess elite dangerous, but it's a much different vibe than say wing commanders.
Chorus (CHORVS) was okay, very pretty, but shit story writing main character and it's very short. But still enjoyable, worth a pirate or heavy sale.
I have not tried Void Destroyer 2 or Under space but they're on my backlog. I won't even mention eve, nms, or ksp.
Xwing vs tie fighter and such are all good too, they are just wing commander reskins. So it's more wc2 so it's very good.
Not a space sim but plays like one: G-Police, B-Hunter
You might like helium rain as a trade-em-up game.
As far as the other genre I am sorry I won't be much help.
I did enjoy ace combat 4/5/0 and 7
crimson skies. :)
