If anything the legacy filter should be standard and an actual "legacy filter" should feature heavier bloom and haze going even further in mimicking the original. There's zero reason for the actual default.

My assumption is the default is designed for newer players with no connection to the original and who Konami thinks just want the game to look like a modern/high def military game. I.e. make sure the game doesn’t look “old.” Anyone who is enough of an enthusiast to care or notice graphics differences is presumably someone who will go into options to tweak things. Basically the same reason TVs often come with super saturated, sharpened, cool temperature settings out of the box when that’s nothing like what a best “calibrated” picture looks like.

MGS3 has a very heavy sepia/green/yellow colour palette with heavy bloom that gives it a distinct look which has been totally lacking in the Delta footage since the start, it just looks generic, the legacy filter adds a green tinge to the game and also seems to adjust some lighting and contrast in cutscenes to mimic more off the original look. Seems universally considered the superior look so people are wondering why it wasn't how the game looked all along.

wouldn't emulating this on a not PS2/PS3 pad suck ass because of the lack of pressure sensitive buttons? I'm unsure how PCSX2 handles games that actually make use of that feature because I've always just played MGS3 on my PS2. you wouldn't be able to aim any fully automatic weapon without immediately mag dumping, and you'd be slitting throats instantly on grabbing someone.
