Onimusha actually looks great. It doesn't look as parryslop as the trailers when someone actually plays it, they just showed off those scenes more heavily in trailers because they're eye candy.

but the parries are literally the only part of the combat that leads to interesting interactions in this game, like how you can make enemies stumble into walls and shit by redirecting them after the parry. which by the way is the first innovation we've seen in the design of parries in like 30+ years. i hate parry slop, but if the game is hard enough on the highest difficulty for it to serve as a CC tool rather than just a "press button at the right time to win" thing, then colour me interested. I already know it's not going to deliver on its potential though, since it's a capcom game we're talking about.

Parryslop = forced to parry as your main form of defense(same as rollslop) which reduces the gameplay to a simon says rhythm game.

If you don't massively overlevel/abuse broken AoWs/use spirit ashes positioning is even more important than it was in previous titles, especially on the harder fights. Half of the Malenia fight, for example, is being in the right spot so that you can punish her whiffing, which you can't do if you're spamming roll like a retard.

And in sekiro you could use the charge attack to knick an enemy's side before going through them when lockon was off, causing their attacks to miss and with the fast move speed you could get on their blindside or behind them a lot

I've already seen people play it and I've only gotten far more skeptical. It seems like it's trying to replace depth and mechanics with extremely detailed canned animations to wow people superficially, the balance seems horrendous and the part I was most interested in, the environmental interactions were barely showcased and look like they'll be overshadowed heavily by both the sheer strength basic moves have and how immediately enemies die regardless of approach and despite how few in number they are. Even absorbing souls is hardly a consideration since you can do it while moving.

I really want to be proven wrong since I loved the series in the past and it was great at reimagining itself but much of what is "new" just looks like a downgrade and the supposed focus on action isn't coming through at all. What I expected from the trailers and was entirely on board with was Dead Rising: Samurai edition, which would have been a really interesting yet understandable evolutionary path but I'm just not seeing that, or much of anything really.
