here are the top games i have played this year, in no particular order
>rusted moss
i don't really like many metroidvanias, the genre is pretty stale. but this one was fun. great use of the grappling hook mechanics combined with the 360 degree aiming made for some cool fights that were far more vertical than most metroidvanias which normally are very horizontal in their combat.
>metro 2033 and last light
fun games. i like the idea of money being ammo and having to balance the two. the trek through the metro was fun, bordered on horror without actually being scary. the gas mask and flashlight mechanics were interesting. it was a great way to make a bigger title that can appeal to normies/casuals while getting some more simulation aspects into the game. will play exodus later this year (hopefully).
>death stranding directors cut
haven't played since 2019 release. even better than i remember because i now have a better understanding of the gnostic themes present in the game.
>GUN
good cowboy game. short and to the point. not a lot of bloat.
>samurai western
silly hack and slash cowboy game. extremely short, wish the main game was longer. nice to have a ps2 game that actually changes the look of your character based on equipment. designs and characters were interesting and surprisingly memorable. would love a sequel.
>the pathless
cool game for the kind of people who enjoyed journey or shadow of the colossus. not difficult at all, but a very artful one.
>death's door
top down zelda+souls done very well with music that is reminiscent of some songs on the kingdom hearts OSTs. nothing groundbreaking, just a very competent game.
>lollipop chainsaw
CUHRAZY game with good vibes. i wish more games had sexy women in them.
>severed steel
max payne+mirrors edge. very short but very good. can't wait to try the other game from this studio.
>call of juarez gunslinger
great storytelling, decent shooting.
