I legitimately have no idea what the fuck Kratos's character is supposed to be in the new games. Hell, I don't really understand what motivates anybody.
All of the characters talk as if they have some overarching responsibilities, but they just seem like homeless people who have no purpose or reason for existing. Maybe it's a meta-narrative of mythology/gods in general, but it doesn't really make for compelling drama. It's like watching 20+ hours of bum fights where they rant about nonsense for the majority of the time and then do what is comparatively (to the original series) some really tame slapfighting.
It's like the game was written and choreographed by women.

People really don't get what the message of nu-GoW was and I can't blame them because it's confusing and not particularly awe inspiring.
The gist is that many gods are bad and deserve to die even if they are only bad due to circumstances. So Freya isn't evil despite ruining Baldur's life because she meant well and is overall a decent person. Odin is evil because his goal was selfish and he had no empathy. Baldur is evil because he succumbed to his condition and chose violence. Greek Gods deserved to die because they were evil and it doesn't matter that they were mostly only evil because the evils from Pandora's Box got to them and it was Kratos who opened it.
Yes revenge is bad for personal reasons but overall Kratos did the world a favour and he needs to get over himself, which he does in Ragnarok.
What is meant by "be better" is not fighting for justice but to maintain a peaceful status quo. The point is that justice is often just a cover for personal vendettas.
