Gamefaqs and MobyGames have the best databases, but absolutely shit UI for actually tracking games. It's possible, just painful.
IGDB database quality gets worse and worse. The UI is okay. Everyone else just use their database, and at best they will make some small adjustments like backloggd did, but it's still fundamentally flawed. Rawg.io, Infinite Backlog, all use IGDB database.
Glitchwave is on life support, it will never get finished. And the userbbase will be so cancerous, Backloggd will look like a harmless joke.
Grouvee just... exists? It uses Gamebomb database, can't recall why I ditched it last time I tried to use it.
There's also Darkadia, iirc it used Gamebomb at first, and was good, but now it's some mix of Gamebomb and IGDB database, so no idea about the overall quality. UI was good, simple and effective, no responsive web cancer.

I used to use excel but the best thing for me recently has been Playnite. It's designed as a frontend, but you can add and edit whatever game you want and mark it as uninstalled so it's tracked but not in your games list. Offers plenty of plugins and customizing (cheevos, hltb, screenshots) too. It stays local on your pc but you can export a csv for excel or Google sheets if you want it accessible online.

I was always this kind of person, because of money constraints, interest in playing few games to the end etc.
But during this 2010~2022 period I purchased a lot of stuff and barely played those after the main campaign and not even that.
Went back to buying 1~3 games a year and thoroughly enjoying them. It was because few titles interest me anymore, but this had this good side effect of making me enjoy the ones I do even more.

If you have to put a game down in a list to remember it, it's probably not worth remembering.

I have some moments like the one you described when you just play one game than another then another... some of those games end up among my favorites but when I look at my top 20/30 I realize that I don't feel the same way about games I played because I felt they were worth playing (like Yakuza 0, Fallout 1) and others that just enraptured me beyond rationality (like Warcraft 3 or Furi).
There are games that you love because you recognize their qualities and you enjoyed them, and then there are games that are YOUR games and they just hit deeper.

Seems strange to me. The last game I finished was Khazan, spent like 40 hours to finish a complete NG and I beat it in a week, that's a bit more than five hours of playtime on average every day. That's not a lot but that's not a little either.
40 hours is like medium length, at a pace of 5,5 hours per day (EVERY single day of the year, that's the thing) you'd beat four medium length games in a month or 48 in a year.
2000+ is literally insane unless you can afford playing 10 hours every single day or you hyperfocus on retro games from NES to Megadrive where the vast majority of games were so short (5 hours) you'd beat one a day at least.

I like backloggd just for being able to track and rate my vidya and make lists. For that Backloggd is perfect and no other site comes close with as user friendly an interface as theirs.
That said I don't make bother with making reviews or interact with the community side of it at all. Just don't see the point and couldn't give a fuck less about what shit opinions people have about things. Pretty sure Backloggd suffers from the same problem as Letterboxd too, wherein all the top "reviews" are just memes and actual genuine reviews are buried.

Sonic 2 is a barely above average platformer, not even the best sonic game, plenty of platformers surpass its game design. Doom is a legacy title FPS with top tier level design, OST and gameplay that aged well, its wide amount of great mods expand on it even further, Doom is a must play title for any gaming enthusiast, its a beast in its genre while Sonic 2 is merely just another game.
Besides the point, you have to look at all the picture here, not just compare 1 game, its fine to like one or two games a lot, it happens, but if you consistently like mediocre games and lump them together with great games then thats a bad sign.

I saw one user at Backloggd who was 19 years old, he had more than 2000 games logged and a lot of them are long games.
He has links to Anime profile, Letterboxd and Goodreads, the dude has more than 300 anime completed, more than 3k films watched and has read many books.
He had a social media page where he reviews things and writes about them, but he does this on few titles, not much.

At some point you realize this is a pseud, its fake when you think about it, you have like 19 years, and you have school time, so at least 6 hours a day are gone, another 6 for sleep, that leaves you with 12, if you spend 4 online that leaves you with 8, for about 10 years, thats impossible even if you no-life yourself inside your room, this shit is just not possible.
At this point you realize this dude is fake and just pretends he completes them.

Biggest clue was how much he changes his ratings, one month he is like this thing is 10/10 amazing, then 2 months later i find out that same thing is now rated 4/10 and 3/10.

You have to acknowledge your taste is different from the objective qualites of the game
Even if you didn't enjoy a game you should be able to tell if its a good game or a bad game based on its merits and to dissects its raw game values and come up with the conclusion if its a bad or a good game.
At the same time if a game you enjoyed so much you should be able to tell if its poorly made and poorly designed.

ARK was with friends on a private server, so it wasn't that bad I guess, we changed the settings to remove the retarded tame timers and dicked around, but damn we could've played anything else. League was a long time ago for me, I started in Season 3 and played off and on over the years. Years ago, a friend roped me back in, I carried myself from Iron to Gold with a 60~% winrate on Pyke before I realized I wasn't having fun, I probably would have made it to Plat but whatever I didn't care enough to try anymore. And WoWs I got roped in by the same guy, gave it a try and I enjoyed the naval combat, but all of the systems surronding the game are predatory and P2W, god we need a fucking naval combat game not owned by greedy wankers. Also wasted a countless amount of time on Runescape as a kid.
