Yeah, but all those things are superficial features that many genres have. Is Michael Jackson's Beat It a metal song just because it has a guitar solo in it? Guacamelee and Hollow Knight have basically nothing in common besides some superfitial stuff, and you would not recommend one game to someone who likes the other just because. My point stands.

Pic on OPs right there is actually really, really fucking good. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown Definitive Edition when on sale is surprisingly well done -and if you are upset about killmonger hair you can easily change his hairstyle to a straight one so you're fine. I'm going to assume that you don't want actual Metroid or Castlevania games, so I'll stick to some others...Also
>Shadow Complex Remastered
a great but somewhat simple metroidvania
>Axiom Verge and Axiom Verge 2
Lean more heavily to the Metroid side, but solid and well made
>Carrion
Do you want to be the tentacle alien for once eating the space station as you slither around air ducts? You do this and more and it works out well.
>Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition + Guacamelee 2
Both are great, include oldfag memes, and have a great traversal + combat setup. To get the true ending it takes some pretty advanced platforming Do NOT get Gold Edition of the first game, its actually older than STCE. Also both can be played co-op 2 or in the second game 4 player!
>Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
Fantastic , a true Igavania and enjoyable. Fuckloads of stuff to do and alternate campaigns too, special modes, other games
>Nine Sols
very well made on Taiwanese lore and stuff. On the harder side as you are expected to souls-like parry though. Worthwhile if you can stick it
>Ori series, both games
Stylish and well done
>Infernax
Nice to see some other anons list it. Its actually a bit different than most metroidvanias and is between that and a very advanced take on Adventure of Link or Simon's Quest, but it stands on its own
>Cave Story, La Mulana, La Mulana 2
These are beyond traditional metroidvanias as they have puzzles and other aspects that are much more difficult than a typical get-the-new-ability-to-progress, but they're good.
>Shinobi
>Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, RabiRibi, Momodora series
Anime girl MVs
>Guns of Fury
Metal slug + MV

Cave Story does not have any puzzles. Or any difficult progression gates. Infact its as literal as "colour coded keys". Youre talking about a different game that is not Cave Story.

Your pedantic faggotry isn't helpful. I said OTHER ASPECTS as well that are outside of the typical metroidvania playstyle. Something like Cave Story or La Mulana are outside the typical metroidvania dynamic. Having to do things in certain, non mandatory orders, do things that you may not be aware will lock you out of others, or otherwise is more than
>get red ability to open red door, go to all the areas on the map to 100% the game
which is typically how most metroidvania work

>Lost Crown Arabic Dub
Holy shit... do you mean Persian/Farsi? It appears the Arabic version is just text, but the Persian is fully voiced. Hell, I wonder if they went out of their way to make it as one of the primary languages so I wouldn't be surprised if it was designed for it. I'll have to get someone who knows Persian/Farsi to tell me if the dialect is "antiquated" to a degree to fit in the time the game is set - that would be great. Ubisoft can do some stupid shit, but languages, historical settings/mythologies etc..are one of their strong points. That's why that Notre Dame came to Ubi to get their research for AC Unity in order to restore the cathedral itself because the AC team basically 3D scanned the entire fucking thing.

SuperTurbo has an extra zone or two and adds to the lore regarding the 2nd player character, but the big thing I remember was that unlike Gold Edition some of the costumes and stuff were not stuck at the "challenges in hell" and instead were doled out in other ways. I'm not sure if would be worth playing again just for the new stuff, but it was a reasonable amount. If you didn'tr get the good/best ending of Guac1 (that required you get the special items from challenging optional areas. if you had all the pieces and then beat the game, you'd get the best ending) then definitely play STCE if you decide to play 1 again.

I'll make this simple for you zoomer faggots.
The first game that coined the term "Metroidvania" was Castlevania Symphony of the Night, due to it being a Castlevania game that deviated greatly from the original series and included gameplay elements most prominently from the Metroid series, while still retaining its own unique aspects.
Does the game share many of the gameplay elements of SotN, such as the large sprawling Metroid style map progression, and RPG elements like levels, stats, items, and equipment?
It's a Metroidvania.
If it doesn't have a majority of those combined elements, it's not a Metroidvania, simple as.
Metroid itself shouldn't be considered a "Metroidvania" since it doesn't share many things in common with SotN, it's like labeling a single aspect of what makes a Metroidvania unique the same label itself. It's like calling a sedan an SUV.

I would recomend Bloodstained to someone who liked Hollow Knight. Stop being a semantics arguing retard pretending everyone doesn't clearly know what you mean when you say "Metroidvania". Ah okay yeah, just give 2 a shot then. Also if you get the DLC there are other playable characters and some of them even have custom dialogs which is a nice touch. To be clear there are 4+ playable characters in the baseline game but some of the enemy bosses from the 2nd and 1st game alike were DLC (Jaguar Javier is perhaps the one most will remember. Though Xtabay is playable by default!) .
>Severed
Ahh yeah thats right it was on other platforms too I think, WiiU / 3DS. I think its a touch screen focus that keeps it from coming to PC but they could overhaul it with a minor improvement and of course anyone with a touchscreen can use the original controls. PC and Android seem to be easy ports.

Ender Lilies / Magnolia
Not sure I'd agree, if you like them that's fine but better than everything else? Yeah GTFO. I didn't list them because the OP mentioned that he didn't like Hollow Knight so I didn't think he wanted too many "Souls-like" metroidvanias too heavily. There are tons of others I could have added because of that, and the few I did like Nine Sols I contexualized it that if its too hard or not the mechanics he wants, he may not enjoy. Ender series, Salt and Sanctuary , etc. The list I had wasn't exhaustive - there are plenty of other good-or-better metroidvanias out there.

i really liked rusted moss. most games in the genre i find bland, very little innovation or variation on the formula. even though i enjoyed hollow knight andd blasphemous i recognize that both of them don't really push the envelope and are more just very competent executions of more of the same. but in rusted moss, the simple fact of adding a grappling hook and 360 degree aiming really opened up possibilities for design. definitely worth checking out.

I'm not much of a Touhou guy. I bought the game because it looked good and I like white haired maids. I really enjoyed the time control powers in combat and also really ended up liking the "graze" mechanic. The boss difficulty also felt "just right" to me, they weren't push-overs but at the same time weren't insanely hard or unfair feeling. Fighting them was fun and rewarding.

If they make a sequel and keep the fun gameplay then I'm sure I'll like it.

Ori (both), Axiom Verge (both, more Metroid than vania), Guacamelee (both, especially if you have a friend for co-op), Nine Sols (chinese stargate), Metroid Dread (and Super Metroid/Fusion if you can handle retro), RabiRabi (if you need cute/coom/bullet-hell in your metroidvania), Castlevania (Aria of Sorrow & SoTN), Luna Nights (best Touhou and superb metroidvania, just a bit easy imo), Bloodstained RoTN (if you can get over the hideous 3D shit), Cave Story+ (a classic but not for everyone), Prince of Persia TLC (if you want more of a combat focus and significantly more casual exploration/platforming), Animal Well (yes really, genuinely exceptional, just 10 dollars overpriced), Sundered (if beauty is a requirement then this cannot be missed, stunning art), Momodora (great, has a little T/A and if you're a huehue you can flex your national pride here), and Blasphemous (both, these aren't perfect by any stretch and 2 fixes most of my problems with 1, but there just isn't much out there with this style and art, it is one of a kind). Missing tons but those are just the ones that stand out immediately in my mind.

Really platform focused shit I just use analog, 8-way firing metroidvanias I use d-pad and ones with bullet hell style bosses I just use a keyboard. The important thing is you have exquisite tastes by being a metroidvania enjoyer. Whatever works man.

Dread is my favorite of what I’ve played. Excellent platforming movement and level design, really well paced, and fun combat. Great to have a modern metroidvania that doesn’t inflate the playtime and have a bunch of boring lore drops as β€œrewards”, currency and vendor tedium, and rpg lite mechanics.
