Lets see. I would have been in middle school around that time. My father had played warcraft 1 and 2. When I was much younger I recall trying to play warcraft 1.
I think my brother and I had a computer we shared, and I think I remember watching him play part of the arthas campaign for a few missions before it was my turn. We played a bunch of tower defense, sheep tag, and other custom maps when I was in highschool. I was more of an A+Move player for the regular multiplayer with maybe a few control groups, and hated all this gay hero micro. I preferred brood war for the RTS part. A few years later we did some LAN between my dads PC and ours.

Orcs or undead were my favorite race. I think I was also playing Natural Selection around this time.

In 2003 we got freelancer and splinter cell. In 2005 we got guild wars. It was a great time for gaming.

While it was possible for some I'm sure, but the bullying , especially as depicted on TV shows and the like, was not massively common in that era. Purple was the Fellowship no armies, but all hero characters! On the opposing side there was an Easterlings, Corsairs faction, Pink was Moria which was the Balrog, a bunch of Goblins, and Gollum, Saruman had his own faction with the Palantir and tons of orcs, Minas Morgul was the Nazgul + Witch King (Arthas DK model) and a bunch of troops, and Mordor itself was brown and had a ton of troops. All kinds of shit could happen depending on how you played!

Besides Ring Wars, Wintermaul TD, and many others, one of the best WC3 (really FT,) custom map tower defenses was pic related, Skibi TD / Skibi's Castle TD It was an excellent co-op TD with little minigames between each round, different armies and more. Fun fact, both its developer and its artist (pic related) got hired by Blizz, which is why it became an "official" map version in later variants.

Both of them, a couple (maybe married later?), working at Blizz had items named after them in WoW. I THINK that this may be one of the earliest versions of the staff she's holding here that was a WoW Priest/caster dungeon model, so this may be where they got the idea for its design! Also

Columbine was actually the catalyst for a lot of the change regarding bullying, it changed the school landscape from tormenting that weird kid into making him an absolute social pariah in fear of him shooting up the place. In my town, everyone was still playing UT99, Total Annihilation and Age of Empires 1/2.
A couple of years later everyone switched to Blackhawk Down and C&C Generals for a few years until MMOs and Fallout 3 started taking up everyone's time.

This is always how all of society worked, its not just a high school thing.

I was in 10th grade, and one of my SC buddies from a nearby university said they downloaded WC3, so I went there, burned a CD-R, and then went straight to my regular computer club, where my other neighbor buddy worked as an administrator. We installed the game on all 12 PCs and played for hours—good times. (pic unrelated)
