The best example I can give is using interlocked rhymes. This is how Elden Ring repeats its assets. You are expected to see repeated assets in large games, but in games like Starfield you can go much longer without seeing a copy pasted POI than you do in ER.

Starfield's issue is that they made their dungeons too unique looking. They should have copied their previous game and built an interlocking dungeon randomizer and intermix them between handcrafted dungeons so there's some more variety however since this is one of the biggest complaints about the game I'm awaiting to see how they're gonna overhaul things.

Forts were one of the first times it pissed me off. Because I could tell the fort was just flipped from one location to another. And then I started noticing the rises. I think Fromsoftware was just expecting people to be stuck in the same place longer than they actually do.

The isn't terrible, it's just painfully ok.

Everything just feels and looks so bland and generic, it doesn't have any of the craziness, terror, or iconic designs of Fallout or Elder Scrolls. And it feels like a downgrade from both Skyrim and Fallout 4 in terms of interesting game mechanics like gore, unique perks/abilities, weapon effects, and dialogue options. I also hate Starfield's non-sensical persuasion system, and the fact you can't strip NPCs down to their underwear.

Worst of all the voice acting is dogshit. Everyone just feels like they're lines of the script so they can get their paycheck, and having the NPCs stare blankly at the camera while you're character is locked in pace doesn't help at all.

Also the procedural generation shit kills all the worldbuilding.

Enemies can be spongy and hit hard if you want them to, though I like to handicap myself a bit by using weaker weapons or reduce the Starborn power usage, otherwise at higher levels you can take out even the strongest enemies in this game too easily as I showcase here

It's true but I really did appreciate how unique the dungeons were. They even often had multiple entrances or ways to jetpack around/past stuff. It was a big improvement over the Skyrim one-way loops with copy pasted prefabs everywhere.
Unfortunately, the POI system was horrible and that canceled out the great dungeon design a lot. Having such recognizable dungeons exactly duplicated elsewhere hurts, and the need to spawn the dungeons everywhere at all levels prevented them from properly rewarding exploration with unique quests and items. The DLC improved this a lot but only by going back to how they used to do it

The truth is, Starfield is just extremely bad at being a Bethesda game.

Steps 5 to 11 Bethesda just kinda forgot to implement. You still open your map but the whole emergent gameplay thing is just not there. You simply fast travel directly to where you want to go and do what you wanted to do. There is nothing to explore and there is nothing to find. Empty abandoned outposts and camps.

And the game has a fucking amazing framework of systems and mechanics. The whole ship building is top notch but it lacks depth, same with the outpost building. There is simply no reason to do it because it's all cosmetic. It doesn't open anything new. Todd he said he didn't want to force the player to do something that wasn't fun. But he ended with a game that doesn't force the player to do anything at all. So unless the player finds the act of doing something in and of itself fun there is no reason to do it.

For example outpost building. If that would unlock new quest lines or special gear or abilities players would actually build them. Or if they served as checkpoints to restock and refuel on longer trips or to off load/sell valuable cargo. Just an answer to the question "what does it do?" would be good.

i think there were definitely guides on how to farm all the crafting stuff but the steam had already ran out by that point and i just didn't bother. you can get completely OP weapons from random drops and i was using some kind of semi auto pistol that did huge damage, and had good accuracy, but it was literally my only useful gun for many, many hours of gameplay and that just sucked.

i'm not adverse to tedious tasks in video games if there's a big payoff but since every single component to this game stinks like pure open ass the desire to continue dries out rather quickly.

It's just so fucking awfully written and done that it doesn't hook you. It also doesn't help that it doesn't feel like the main story but the goddamn tutorial continuation.

That's not even the core issue people have with Starfield, the simple reason that most people don't like this game is because it's BORING. Poor writing and lackluster design are easily forgivable if you can direct people towards the FUN. Bethesda expected people to create their own fun through this game, but the irony is that they can't, not without Bethesda and modders throwing them a gold encrusted bone. And even if they do, it's already too late to salvage this game for some of those people.

Starfield will be good.
