My interest was already low with the first trailer, and the more I've seen, the less I've liked.
SH2 already had too much combat, it was one of the biggest complaints about it, and this looks like it's focusing even more on combat which isn't what I want.

My hope is that the combat in this gets shit on hard in the hope it'll make future games and the SH1 remake tone it down and strike a balance.

Silent Hill 2 remake did far better than anyone expected and it was coming hot off the heels of the Bloober hate train being at its peak, plus it having to follow up disappointing experiments like Silent Hill Ascension and The Short Message. Not to mention that SH2 Remake is already better than every post SH4 game by a long shot, the series is basically out of its flop era now.

Cybil was barely in the first game, if she's lucky they might give her more of a role or bring over her storyline from Play Novel in the remake. Unfortunately It's a totally unoriginal video-game and only partly because It's a remake. They put every AAA-things in it, like ots camera instead of an cinematographic angles, white toilet paper aka yellow paint, over-dramatic voice acting instead of a dreamy lynchian delivery of an original game. I'm not even talking about playtime bloat and focus on buggy scripted combat. It's crazy how unoriginal and second-hand tier this game Is. It's offers nothing new and became obsolete just after It's release. Even the 24-years old original game feels much fresher than this dogshit.

I think there is some context from Japan's history that's missing from the rest of the world. IIRC men and womens roles were slowly changing since WW2, and the 1960s was basically the soft period of Pinku films or just sexual imagery being far more prominent, whether in something as simple as a kiss covered up by an umbrella, nudity being covered up by props, or full on sexually violent scenes. There's probably more context but I don't know anywhere near enough about it to know what the writer is getting at.

Definitely playing. I've beat the original silent hill 2 no joke at least 12 times. I understand the complaint about the combat. For example I think some of the attack animation were poorly done. But I'd rather have more combat then them just reverting back to the way it was before. I love silent hill as a series but everyone can agree that the combat was lack luster at best.

I also think that some scenes need to be re done. Didn't like delivery of the first part of dialog James speaks. Didn't like how the made the radio game show voice serious, misses the point. And Maria's dialog when she behind bars. She plays the part ok but if you played the original she talks in a way that mimics Mary. It feels way creepier and in SH2R she drops the act quicker.

Still a incredible remake though. It was my game of the year. Can't believe how well they did . Even though it's a different team I respect they brought in a writer for SHF. Story always should be the focus with any silent hill game.
