Quite some time ago I've tried Dungeons and Dragons Online on one of freshly opened hardcore servers, dumped like 20 hours into that blindly without dying (just stack tankiness, auras,defensive potions and listen to every tip every boomer will make). Don't know why did I stop but nowadays I miss the journey so much, and they don't want to open another hardcore server.
It was wild to watch some people who tried to teach me how to play, to die in front of me.
Its beyond me why so little mmo's offer you the HC experience, not like the servers would be overpopulated or anything to make it expensive to host.
I guess the few ARPG's is all that's left for me.

It feels like just about everything surrounding him went through a lot of rewrites. We've gotten through the whole story and we still have no fucking idea who his mom was. We have no idea WHY he was the miraculous son that was able to be born from a two-headed Mamool Ja. It's not satisfying to justify his flip-flop from "Garlemald is weak but we're not" into "I want to use war to teach my subjects war is bad" into "I want to be the strongest king" into "I want to be worthy of my father's legacy" into "Only I am strong enough to be a worthy king and I'll literally kill anybody to prove it" by just saying he's either crazy or stupid.

I'm just saying that these particular rewrites were probably done not for the sake of cleaning up the story but because of external pressure and feedback (which is the part that's not objectively proven and is instead just 'incredibly likely'). The Echo is part of the WoL and it's a tool that can be used really well in the narrative to engage with the fantasy setting. When you have a fantasy world with established magical abilities that have rules, you're allowed to take advantage of them without it feeling arbitrary (and in fact it feels cohesive and rewarding to the audience).

This is honestly a good description of a problem I have with the expansion. Tural feels like it has no worldbuilding because the expansion is actually disinterested in the world in a way the other expansions aren't. We're TOLD the culture is rich and diverse but don't get to actually experience the culture despite it being the expansion where that is a goal more explicitly than the others. It has a "theatrical" view of worldbuilding and engaging with a culture... Which is retarded when they're able to take advantage of it being a video game and an MMO to convey worldbuilding, which is MUCH better than in theatre.

It's a huge issue because worldbuilding and having the audience engage with the world is absolutely vital for both fantasy stories AND MMOs. It's important for them more than any other genre, I'd say. People love Shadowbringers because the worldbuilding and writing for Norvrandt (and the greater universe) was so engaging, not just characters. Dawntrail treats worldbuilding as a tax it has to pay just to have a setting in which drama can happen, when the philosophy should be that worldbuilding is a large part of what's engaging the audience in a fantasy video game.

I could get into how all of this bleeds into DT's juvenile degeneration of the political intrigue the game used to be good at, but that's another issue.

Agreed. ARR's only real sins are having dry exposition, and it (along with most other expansions) proves that there's absolutely nothing wrong with political exposition. That dry and political exposition in ARR was all pretty important and it's done efficiently enough. HW and ShB are much better examples of using the worldbuilding/exposition to increase investment/engagement, because it's often tied up with the drama that gets the player to care about the conflict and characters involved. But ARR is perfectly fine and people should respect it a lot more for what it setup and how the rest of the story delivers on the framework it builds.

DT fails to even have setup, despite the intent being for it to launch a new story and already having a cast of beloved characters/locations/jumping points. There's no reason DT couldn't have setup the same number of conflicts and plot points as ARR did. It just didn't because it was more interested in telling its contained, awful story. And it's somehow paced so horribly that, despite having no setup or worldbuilding, it's the second longest expansion behind EW which has about a million fucking things happen in it.

Wuk Lamat is just a mild annoyance compared to the overall damage to the story long term this will be causing, as it will lock the developers into a very specific type of writing that is comparable to a "villain of the week" cartoon storytelling, where something new will have to be discovered every time to engage the audience, since there's been nothing preemtively set up to make the characters do anything else, while forcing them into reactive behaviors instead of proactice and it will make Dawntrail unsalvageable as a setting unless it is completely rewritten.
