For me, first it's the setting. A comfy town surrounded by the beautiful nature of Oregon, it has that strong feeling of nostalgia, or I don't know how to call that feeling since I have always lived in a big city, never in a town, but somehow looking at small towns surrounded by nature brings some kind of happiness. Second it's the teenage characters. The teenage drama brings a lot of happy memories because high school was the best part of my life, not worried about life, hanging out with friends, my first love, doing dumb teenage stuff, etc. I'm sure a lot of people can relate and can find teenage characters entertaining. Third it's the paranormal events. Time travel can bring interesting points of view, although I'm more into science fiction so I'd have liked an explanation, why did Max get time travel powers, but that's just me. And fourth, indeed it was the lesbians. As a man I always wanted a lesbian best friend, her being my wingman with the girl I liked and I being her wingman, stuff like that. In general, teenage lesbians as main characters in a small town where paranormal events are happening is a recipe for success if done right.
