not him but it had a form of bunnyhopping and grappling-jumps that made you able to go really fast, plus projectile weapons that could take advantage of it. and the whole franchise revolved around the idea of pilot vs titan gameplay, as a pilot you were very fast and agile, but titans had pretty neat powers and ways to stomp players and many of them kind of countered eachother aswell, the maps were specifically designed for it with good verticality. however there was no matchmaking or something (besides a ranked mode hardly anyone played), i had a ridiculously high KD on PS4 (which is probably less impressive than pc) and some bullshit 100-0 kd on a 1v1 mode, clawed controller, autistically mastered every titan etc. the game also had a story campaign that was surprisingly good. over the years it seems to have become one of those games that is praised by youtubers for being one of the best games ever yet none of those normies played that shit at the time.

This leaves FPS devs under 2 possible categories: Incompetent Devs who have no idea what makes a fun game copying the most recent successful formula/working on an extremely old franchise where cretivity isn't required. Adding to this the fact that FPS are principally competitive games and just like any competitive games, the community orbits around the games that have the most player count. Anytime a competitive minded person play a game that is not mainstream in the competitive scene they feel like they are wasting time they could invest in becoming better at that more popular game. Hardware cheating aside, the simple solution with aim "assist" is just to give both console players and pc players the same aim assist. Make it so if a PC player is aiming at another PC player, they don't get auto aim. But if the PC player is fighting against a console player, they both get the same auto aim. There, playing field is even. There would be much weeping and gnashing of teeth from console tards if they didn't have their cheat advantage so it won't happen.

I'm lucky the grinding in MMOs seems like the most boring and pointless thing in the world, so I always stayed away from them. That's a big part of the issue with player hosted lobbies is that there's a ton of variance in experience for users. I would say that despite playing a lot of the same game we have very different memories of it. Double edged sword to having that kind of player freedom, I suppose. Same thing goes for things like team fortress and any other old fashioned style of server hosting. There's a reason why they're hard to come by now, corpos hate the idea of their IP being associated with a butthurt badmin. That is the current reality of console players. Yes, I agree they aren't really aiming and hence their victories in FPS is not a test of how good they aim. The current reality is giving these cripples (read:console players) a motorized bike (read: auto aim) while regular bikers (read: PC players or console players that turn off auto aim) have to make do with a normal bike (read: no auto aim).

Gyro controls is a novel idea. I can say for a fact motion controls are garbage, but I never tried gyro controls for a FPS so that mgiht work. The problem is it vastly under utilized and seems like technology that just will never catch on. Wouldn't be surprised if it's gone by PS6.

Tribes Ascend was playable in two forms for ages: the current OOTB version could be played by just adding a launch option to a community login server, and a pre-OOTB, GOTY version could be played with a simple mod. Not only this, but websites like Llamagrab.net let you host servers for either version with total control over options, passwords, and even including some map packs.
