That was my fave season but I never watched any after 4 when they transform into Digimon.

I'm hyped. Been looking forward to Time Stranger all year. Digimon has been in a good place for the past several years, and I'm really pleased with each new game that comes out. Hoping the new anime season is good too.

5 (data squad / savers) is excellent and has one of the best protagonists. 6 (fusion / xros wars) is okay, but doesn't feature much traditional digivolving and instead has "fusions" where they combine like mecha. 7 (app mons) is more like the older seasons but has appmons instead of actual digimon so a lot of people disliked it for that alone. 8 (adventure 2020) was a reboot of the first season. Most people hated it because it ramps up the pacing and changes a lot of characterization people liked. 9 (ghost game) is somewhat back to form but more of an episodic horror show rather than having much of an overarching plotline.

Data Squad is worth your time the most if you like the old stuff and want something similar.

Don't expect miracles, but they did the best that they could without remaking the combat on a fundamental level. Piercing Attacks are still the strongest DPS, but they do have notable downsides now and most bosses on Hard don't need them anymore. Training albeit is an RNG fest, is still something you'd interact with the game outside of combat. CS/HM entire mechanic revolves around combat, you can put your mons in the digi-aquarium, but it's way better and faster to just throw them in the party and gain exp and then digivolve and de-digivolve over and over again to unlock more digivolution routes and ABIs. I said previously that digimon felt less unique in DMW3 and I still stand by that, but to unlock different routes you'd at least have to train your mon with the gym to unlock them, just leveling can unlock some non-canon routes, but it's not much and some lines would be stuck if they didn't train in other categories like wind or metal or fire and etc.

I can only speak from my own experience, and maybe other anons can weigh in on whether it’s worth it for them. But personally? I really loved that route. Despite some rough gameplay sequences, I genuinely enjoyed the overall story... and a few characters only truly shine in that path. Still, I wouldn’t push anyone to play through the game twice.
