because shit don't just work. I installed mint a month ago because win7 is unusable and I refuse to use modern windows.
linux is great for browsing, ricing and light office work. but good fucking luck doing anything other than that.
I needed subtitle edit to ocr pgs subtitles. according to their guthub, the portable version works in linux. great, just install a million libraries from the terminal because I can't find them in the manager and... nothing works.
figured I did something wrong so I uninstalled everything and started fresh. except my package manager is now fucked. nothing is installing or uninstalling. sudo apt --fix-broken does jack shit as do another dozen different commands I found online. after an hour troubleshooting, I try chatgpt because why not and it recommends aptitude. fixed.
so I try again and... nothing. apparently I did nothing wrong, the program is just bugged to hell in linux so you have to take arbitrary paths to get everything set up. note that it comes preconfigured in win11.
so after half a day including a reformat, I got it working. something that would've taken me half an hour in windows, ocr included.
I'm not going back but this shit is why people don't use linux.
