I'm 4 hours in and I'm shocked at how it feels so incredibly different than 3. I actually liked how 3 handled the multiple skills and customization but in this game its so messy and over convoluted. All the ui sucks too, the hud is very lifeless compared to the old games and the in game menus, particularly the inventory is a nightmare to navigate. All that said the writing and dialogue is much better than 3. Changes to combat like ordnance and using the whip to grab items is all good and very fluid. What I'm very trepidatious about is the open world, I haven't gone very far in but its giving off ubislop assassins creed open world vibes so far.

The first vault monster I fought was kind of ass. I had to go through three mid bosses, and then he was way too fast for how large he was and how small his weakpoints are. And I had to grapple to unlock his weakpoints, then he has a healing phase where you have to play floor is lava while he spawns mini enemies and heals himself in a cacoon you can only really damage from above. I never had a boss that could fill a screen and still dodge my shots while only having small weak points

i'd go for it, using guns to shoot skeletons can be satisfying, then you throw in fireballs or chain lighting etc, each character is customizable so you choose a "class" and they have like 6 of them if I remember, the action skills are nothing special but the trees are fine. Maybe I dodged a bullet but I'm on pretty high graphics settings, very stable as long as I keep it locked to 60. At 100 it doubles the resource use but the game dissolves into goo.

I've not gotten too far, also I've got korean voices on, but the intro was darker than 2s.

Those DLC expansions are unlockable, that's the message I was trying to get across. When the new characters come out, you can unlock them without spending additional money. You purchase the base game to play it online with friends, you unlock the DLC as it becomes available.

at the end of the day most of its subjective, all I can say is that in Borderlands 2 you get through the opening area and you discover the open world attached to sanctuary, you travel to the nearby zones until you "discover" the fridge which is an iconic zone and experience with the rats (another enemy type superior to most in 3) as you continue you reach the highlands which leads you to the Hyperion city Opportunity another iconic level that totally stands out, and soon you discover the wild west inspired bandit town Lynchwood which is one of the best bandit areas in the series, finally you reach the eridium lands which is an excellent final hub both thematically and aesthetically which connects you to Sawtooth Cauldron this massive bandit level centered around an enormous foundry/tower very reminiscent of one of the better bandit areas in BL1. Finally you get to Hyperion's headquarters and open the vault the end. 3 just swaps you from planet to planet with little connection or sense of narrative, they're definitely unique but that ends up being a fault, I loved Pandora and then suddenly its some tedious city, and that weird planet thats one instance like oriental inspired or something and it meanders until you get to gayboy swamp land which could've been awesome if it felt like some place you actually discovered but you just teleport there and then its an enormously tedious place to navigate and from there on I go blank on the remaining areas though I'm sure one of them was probably solid. The individual rooms in some of these areas have their merit gameplay wise but the types of enemies they replaced feel like a loss to the overall experience whether its less varkids and spiderants, or rats and nomads or whatever.

The audio mixing is bad, you have to go into settings and change the advanced audio options to hear it over everything else. You should do it too because the only thing BL has never fucked up is the soundtrack, now we've even got dynamic music that changes when things like Badasses come out.

Humour is subjective but it definitely feels like they don't do that bullshit where they drag it out for too long so the player "gets it".

I played this game all day. The open world was a poor choice. The interface is just rough to operate. The character models are intersectional: meaning at the intersection of gay and retarded. The story and writing are uninspiring to the point of blandness. There's a zesty black guy as one of the main good guys dropping not so subtle innuendoes like the kids are going to think it's an in joke instead of weird fetishization. This is the same input by the far-left "creatives" who also thought people would want to play as a middle-aged black lady, or that people would think it's risque or something that the Siren calls the albino tank "the perfect Daddy" when co-oping both characters. The graphics are plagued with issues. The sidequests take forever relative to their rewards, and the main storyline quest is completely toothless. This game is just a franchise milking cashgrab. They waited long enough for people to forget multiple prior rugpulls. Anyone paying for this is hoping 2K can give them a high-energy and fun lootershooter but this game is simply DOA for lack of edge or inspiration. It's just boring regurgitation with almost nothing to recommend it beyond nostalgia.

I didn't even play this game but from the 3 sreen shots I've seen the UI looks abhorrent. The fact it looks so bad gives me the vibes of the game being rushed, along with poor performance. It's a fairly recent feeling I noticed that games started to feel like they were made like yesterday on someone else's call (investors, duh..) because there is no logical reason to have oversights like that. You start question yourself: do these people even play what they made? Like who's idea was that and why no one said nothing? It only makes sense when there is no time for revisions like and game just slapped together in one night.

Also the "open world"... I didn't even realize that this was it's main selling point, and it's such a red flag it's insane. Moreover, the reason why they chose it most likely as someone pointed out it was build on bones of Wonderland which was the most trash DEI ridden slop I even played, I bought it, refund it, got it for free and I wish I never did so...

Problem with open word is its proportions and what they imply from the game design. Now that Iv seen borderlands 4 I noticed a trend, the "arenas" of the game became more and more spacious with every game. I suppose it is to account for all the "movement tech" but because of most of the areas feel that much more lifeless. Just remembering borderlands 1, there were places that you'd barely fit in the first place, slim corridors, small rooms, everything was like 5 times smaller compared to now where you have 10km spaces just for 2 enemies that feel like ants in the field. Open world concept now amplifies that even more making the environments feel like that much more shallow. it feels like you running in shallow empty assets rather than grounded world.

1 is janky as shit but has some of the wackiest RPG stuff like infinite ammo and rocket spam. basically has no story unless you play the DLCs, which make the story a little better.
2 is streamlined, story was good back then but now just feels like you're playing Reddit: The Game, probably due to its success. gameplay is pretty good but after you beat the story you are basically grinding the same 2 monsters over and over for the gun you want.
3 has great gameplay and feels good to play on modern systems but is super streamlined and has an insanely cringe story.
