Yeah, if it does end up playing just like 3H's Monastery that would blow. The whole interweaving storylines thing makes me hopeful it won't be quite like that even if there is a hub between levels. As long as we aren't given whole months to fuck around before the next real map and the hub actually changes it'll already be vastly improved. Now all they'd need to do is allow a menu interface to do the hub activities in a quick manner as an alternative to running around the map. I think a lot of people dont realize that 3H and Engage were made by 2 different teams. 3H was made by Koei Tecmo with supervision from IS.
Whereas Engage was entirely IS. The creative teams behind them are completely different.
It's very likely Fortune's Weave was already in development right after the 3H DLC was out and IS and Nintendo realized that this was now the most successful FE ever

So with all this in mind, is it really so far-fetched to assume that Sothis was aged-up because they've taken the "dragon lolis r problematic" discourse to heart and so lazily redesigned her for appeasement purposes? RD's only problem was that the Dawn Brigade is weak as shit compared to every other faction so once you get access to other characters the difficulty craters, especially once all the parties team up, and especially if characters have save data bonuses from PoR.
The inventories are all kept separate and obviously none of them have as much going on as far as character customization or in-between stuff as Three Houses or other modern entries.

If you stop self-inserting with the avatar character, then it becomes a standard main character. Just stick to the default name and appearance and you're set. Maybe switch to the gender opposite yours, to make the disconnect between yourself and the character wider.

I actually thought Byleth worked really well for that. A custom appearance wasn't even possible, and she had an actual history with other characters instead of starting from a blank slate. The only avatar-like behaviours were the blank stare and silence, but those are real character traits that other characters call attention to. And at the end it turns out the were caused by fucking brain damage.

I guess, unless you just don't like the main character having any kind of status. But then the only Fire Emblem you'd even like is Path of Radiance.

They're not one of the routes so they're not really relevant to that. But just for a thought exercise, sure they were, why not? They are after all according to what little we learn about their own beliefs the only surviving "real humans" left after some alien loli came down from outer space and genocided their whole race. And then to add insult to injury the alien replaced them with unnatural homunculi abominations (that may have been made from animals?). In their viewpoint they're trying to reclaim the earth from alien invaders and their beastman servants. But in the end we don't really know what really happened back then and that's kinda the point. The present day characters (namely Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude) have to deal with the machinations of a bunch of ancient dudes despite being ignorant of whatever the fuck is actually going on with them. Even Claude who learns the most by the end of the game still doesn't really know what happened objectively.

A little different since we already know the basic narrative premise of FW while Hopes was incredibly tight lipped about was happening story wise with the first trailer. The most I entertain right now is that they took the Astral Chain route where Cai and glasses girl are the gender options and whivhever one you don't pick sticks around as a tag-along character.
