I have a love/hate relationship about this game.
I think the setting was very cool and the game for the most part is pretty fun.
But while I appreciate that it feels like the distillation of resident evil, silent hill, and a few other horror genre titles, it leaves in some abrasive elements beyond utility, like the pitiful item management.

Anyways OP I'm going to play STALKER mods for Halloween.

item management in signalis is just put everything except for a single gun and key item you need into the box. The real problem is level design, you just stumble around until you find another generic key to open a door to find another key to open another door loop until the game is finished. There's like 3 serious puzzles in the whole game. Shaft-like shizo transitions in cutscenes are cringe too. The story is pretty cool overall tho.

I think the story suffers despite the inclusion of Wrights excellent reads. Nearly everyone else except for Nicole turns in a worse performance than the original, especially the captain guy. That said it look incredible, plays great and the open concept Ishimura is fucking inspired. It’s more than earned its spot, worse than the original as a package deal imo but still great, and people who say it’s worse than 3 are braindead.

Not really hard to come up with one, like I can easily think of an aftermath scenario where either Elster failed to keep the promise route being canon or Alina was just too strong so even in death her influence continues. Or maybe even a prequel.

But honestly not all games need a 2nd game and I'm fine with Signalis being a one and done.

>abstract story to a detriment
I'll actually defend it on that point. Signalis is supposed to feel like a confusing nightmare because that's what it is. Ariane is stuck in the pod, dreaming and distorting reality because she psychically linked up with whatever was sleeping on the planetoid her ship eventually landed on. All the people she knew from Rotfront appear in her dream as replikas, and all the moments and places from her life warp and blur into one another. Her cancer manifests as meat blobs that slowly take over the dream. The game is her begging Elster to wake her up by killing her, which manifests in the repeating motif of the Toteninsel painting. Most of the story is squirreled away in little details, such as the ironic fact that Adler's gestalt was the spy.

I usually hate confusing games, but playing again, there were a lot of hidden details that show that the devs put serious love and attention into the game. Like the fact that the repeating audio number sequence is the updated mission parameters telling Elster and Ariane that their mission is doomed and that they're both going to die horribly alone in space. Or fact that every Kolibri room has a stepstool in it because she's a midget. The only part I'll complain about is that the flashback images zip by way too fast.

For a game about lesbian space robots, it wasn't bad.

IMO the second Evil Within is pretty much on par with the first one, so it's worth playing if you like the first one. Both games do certain things better; I personally think the second one is better overall, but that's mostly for gameplay related reasons.

My issue is exactly that, they are small details.
It's a medium to tell a story, and while there is some interesting worldbuilding, it's not enticing enough to me as a player to spend hours reading on. I'm focused on the game and how it plays, not its small details like a film.
Didn't help a lot of it was a "homage" to animes to put it lightly.
As much as I like the characters, music, and setting, the game was horrid to play and the overall story made little sense to a point where I didn't care about anything besides finishing it.
Also, its too hard to find the porn and the fandom is fucking rancid. It's fun getting blocked by the dev lmao

Just finished SH1, moved on to SH2 (PS2). Will probably finish 2 and 3 before going on vacation in October so I won't be playing games at that time.

It's good if you enjoyed RE1-3 and sci-fi horror.
