Why is there zero hype for this game? It was announced 8 years ago to a beloved series that hasn't had a new game in 18 years.

Because it looks like Metroid Prime 3.5 and 3 was already nowhere near as good as 1 / 2.

The second I saw the retarded and unnecessary motorcycle, I knew it was ogre. It was weird in Zelda and it's weird in Metroid.

I didn't check any of the trailers because I like to go in blind but from the small amount of footage /v/ nigger spammers forced me to see it looks like MP3 at best. It'll probably focus on how BADASS BOSS BITCH Samus is and I'm sure instead of a feeling of isolation we'll have federation mission control telling us where to go and what to do at all times. It's impossible to have good games these days anyway.

I've been cautiously optimistic until the recent trailer. I know people were bitching about the footage being "more of the same", but for a series that hasn't had a release in this long, a safe approach to Prime isn't the worst thing.

Subjectively, the bike doesn't aesthetically mesh with Metroid, and it's not nearly as cool as I think the devs expected it to come across. Open-ending areas are also a major turnoff for me now, as well.

I was apprehensive on the initial reveal because aside from 3's arbitrary secret ending, Prime already finished the story with Phazon. I'm fine with a new 3D Metroid but we never really needed "Prime 4". But whatever, it might be cool...or at least before they showed off the motorcycle. What moderate interest I had in the game definitely took a hit there.

Samus has shinesparking and they spent the whole video showing us her driving around on a motorbike through an empty nu-Pokemon looking world.

Huge Metroid fan, but this game looks like shit.

I haven't even played the previous games, it's hard to get excited about the 4th game in a spinoff. I do think the Prime games look pretty cool, I'd want to play them, so after they remastered only the 1st I was hoping they'd do the other 2 as well but nah, apparently not. RDR is one of the most demanding games of the PS3 and it doesn't even run at HD, not even full HD, just HD, RDR on PS3 runs at 640p locked, Switch 1 runs it better even in handheld mode.
The Switch was always somewhere between the Wii U and the PS4-XBONE, as shown by plenty of games that run significantly better on the Switch than on the Wii U such as Bayonetta 2 and Breath of the Wild, hell, the Wii U alone ran Bayonetta 1 much better than the PS3.
The Switch 2 is somewhere in between the PS4 and the PS5, stuff like Cyberpunk and Hogwarts Legacy run better on the Switch than on the PS4, and stuff like Star Wars Outlaws and Split Fiction outright don't even have PS4 versions at all.

What I mean by this is that it's not a FF Versus XIII/FFXV situation.
It's more like Metal Gear Rising where it changed dev teams mid-development and the new team scrapped like 99% of what the old team had.

This game hasn't been in development for 8 years. This Retro Studios Prime 4 started development later, well into Switch 1 gen.
There is another Prime 4 by Bandai Namco that we will probably never see how it looked and will never know exactly why was it cancelled (besides most likely being shit).

Just felt like throwing that out there.

I'm not a tween anymore and can't stand the overly bright childish Nintendo designs anymore. Tried to hold on to it for a long time but I must admit I crave more edgy graphics. Realistic, stylized or grimdark, doesn't matter, but nearly everything Nintendo has been putting out the past decade has felt too much like generic slop graphically. Only BotW/TotK kinda worked for me, but they too were held back by weak hardware and barebones graphical fidelity. And it was too much of a formulaic Nintendo collectathon. I used to love Metroid and Dread was 10/10 but I'm not getting any hype for Prime 4 from the trailers. I need it darker and edgier.

Here's a hot take, Metroid was never actually that good or interesting.
You say an entire genre was named after it but it wasn't exactly unique for its time it was just an early adoptee by the mainstream. Side scrolling combat games were a dime a dozen.

The real reason Metroid is popular to this day is because Samus is hot and hot girls sell. If Samus was a man, people wouldn't really remember it that fondly. Metroid struck the perfect balance of being a pretty good game and having a sexy main character that people wanted (and still want) to fuck. This combo is what truly set it for success and anyone ignoring that is just not being honest.

The fact we haven't gotten a first person 3D Metroid game that isn't garbage is a shame, but that's Nintendo for you. Imagine a game where you're Samus and fighting off lots of enemies at 240+ FPS in 4K without DLSS with a keyboard/mouse or controller with crisp clean graphics. We'll never get that because they want their shit to run on a fucking switch.

Dread was an amazing game, but my main complaint for it was always that the visuals looked "stock" and lacked personality.
If you changed Samus to a different model, people would just assume it's some Unity asset flip on Steam.
I hope they won't repeat that. Current screenshots are fifty-fifty.

That's exactly my point.
Metroid games were played and enjoyed by many but they usually weren't what you'd leave in your gameboy. They were fine games to borrow and play but most people didn't really care to play them multiple times or ask to borrow them again.

The modern games aren't given the optimization or care or attention to detail the franchise might deserve so it's basically stuck in eternal mediocrity. The fact that they alienate most of the potential customers by not having a single Metroid game on Steam is also really shitty. Shutting out PC as a platform is not going to earn them many new fans.

In my opinion I think it could have succeeded if they took a different approach and went more for something like Halo, but it's too late for that. If they tried now they'd probably just create a new Unreal Engine 5 disaster that nobody wants. They'd probably also not give us an FOV slider or cap FPS at 60 or something. Instead of Master Chief we could have had Master Queef in her space suit shooting aliens and doing platforming and puzzle solving and boss fights on PC at high FPS but that's unfortunately not on the menu.
Samus is more or less doomed to be a cool character stuck in mid games on shitty hardware platforms and that's a shame.

How come no one ever tried to imitate the metroid prime formula of a 3D metroidvania focused on immersion, investigation, puzzles... But maybe with better combat and mechanics? One of Metroid's main draws and one of the key elements of any "Metroidvania" style game should be good level design. Open world is a lazy cop out because all you have to do is slap together an empty flat plain with points of interest scattered around. It has no place in Metroid.

They can easily make intelligent open designs these days. They really studied level design to the endpoint these days. It’s all like a scientific process, and they got lots of artists which was probably one of the challenges was to make it all feel unique. It’s not like back in the day where if you veered off the broken pathway youd just find big walls with nothing there. Modern level designs are breathtaking and filled with exciting adventures to share with a loved one. Metroid will be spectacular and I cant wait.
