Ask yourself the point of the project. We're here so anons can get together and have fun making music by us for us. Since year 1 a large focus has been on us screeching into our mics and even self-ribbing about that occasionally. The year 1 songs have soul because the anons put their hearts and souls into them. The entire first year was mostly that: "Industry" and "Board Culture". Granted, those were the primary reasons the musical started out in the first place.

NTA but I write songs from actual musicals every year, they tend not to get sung nearly as often as catchy pop songs. Part of that is just that the pool of musical songs people actually recognize is much smaller and we grabbed most of them years ago, convincing someone to sing a song from some obscure ass album like Urinetown or Bat Boy The Musical is hard as hell.

yeah that's a big struggle with being a writefag honestly. I tend to avoid repetitive songs that are too close lyrically to what I want the final song to be. When half the song is the same or has 1 word tweaked per line it's inevitably going to just sound like the same song instead of a parody.

If I was gonna tackle that song like that I'd go for a specific theme to try to push the lyrics in a direction, something like "We're Not Gonna Bake It" from the POV of the evil cookie clicker grandmas, but even that it would be difficult to change the lyrics because most of the some is just repeating "we're not gonna X it" over and over with slightly different wordings. I think that specific song is just hard to parody because of the lyric set it has, I'm sure someone could do it but it's beyond me.

We've done a bunch of Pocahontas songs but nobody did the one I think is best, Mine, Mine, Mine, because it's not as popular as the ones Pocahontas sings with the little kids we once were. yeah I feel the same in general. I'm proud of my songs that turn into specific things rather than stay paint-by-numbers. There's no major gatekeeping like "you can't write janny songs anymore", you can write anything you want, but anons self-regulate since a singer has to actually find it worth singing for it to take off the ground. Anyone writing parodies could learn a lot from them. The wordplay is witty, the rhymes and lyrical repetitions are constant and strong, and the timings and stresses are tight. The tracks are often written with precision down to the syllable on making them flow and sound just right. Let's examine just 1 simple bit from a track that isn't even popular:

Note the constant mid-line rhymes, not just me/tea/please/niceties but key and sea are in that scheme as well. And some of those rhymes have their own extended rhymes, "modulate the key" and "not debate with me" are entire phrases that rhyme on the 3rd syllable as well and not only the final syllable. Divisive and indecisive are a similar pair. They're clean perfect rhymes. The syllable stresses are extremely tight, and /v/tm songs almost never put in the effort to match syllable stresses because that's advanced wordsmithing.
