You need to have social interactions yes, but if you can't live without the approval of others then you'll always be unhappy. Always worrying if people secretly hate you, or if none of them care at all.

You can accept the existence of something without just allowing it do it whatever it wants. Adults refuse to take what reality gives them all the time, and that's the only way things ever get done. Someone sees the reality, refuses to accept it, and actively works to make it no longer the reality.

I agree. I also know that not everyone wants to move to go to university, move to the city, climb the corporate ladder, and constantly move across the country, jumping from place to place seeking opportunity. Some people would rather, and are indeed better off, just staying home and keeping up what they have.
I want a story that recognizes that its ok to do that.
