>testing has revealed that the SSDs crashing and crashing due to the Windows 11 update were using pre-release, pre-final versions of the engineering firmware. Because all SSD manufacturers selling products using PHISON controllers purchase their products from the original manufacturer and ship them in bulk using mass-production tools, the SSDs delivered to consumers are already using the official firmware. The official firmware has been thoroughly tested and verified, and does not exhibit the anomalies often seen with engineering firmware.

Technically because of the fucked state of the DMCA, unless the software you're talking about was pre 1995 or had no DRM (and it's legally debatable if proprietary software as a whole qualified), you haven't ever bought software, you're just a benefactor of the fact that the legal system is physically incapable of actually enacting the sheer level of corruption it has.

Performance changes are negligible at this point, sometimes better sometimes worse in small margins.
Old game compatability on linux is miles better than even 10. Still not as good as 7 but oh well.
> and there's obviously the problem with anticheats
People blow this way out of proportion, most anticheats still work on linux. Battleye, nprotect, even EAC works. It's specifically a handful of devs that arbitrarily block it so as long as you're not rooted to modern compslop or a league addict you're fine.

Besides, not like those work on 7 either.

Windows could drop their completely arbitrary TPM2.0 requirement and stealthily force the update on to me, I guess, honestly I do sort of expect that if they look at Win10 marketshare and it's still 1:3 users on it.

Win11 adoption is significantly higher than Win10 adoption was at the time of 7's official EOL.

Bazzite runs on top of Fedora Atomic, does the whole "immutable" thing where the OS is kept on a separate partition to your programs and files so you're less likely to fuck something up. it also tries to emulate how SteamOS works where Steam Big Picture loads on boot and you can jump into a KDE desktop session if you need to tinker with something outside of steam

you really shouldn't use it outside of those handheld PCs or a "DIY console" since it kinda blows for regular computing

Great post. Thankfully in KDE you can change the middle click to scroll, even if it doesn't work like Windows. At least it does on browsers with an extension so that pretty much takes care of it.
And yeah, I often use chatgpt to help me find any config file I might want and even make quick terminal scripts so I can, for example, rename all files in a folder to a format I want, it's amazing.
I didn't want to go Mint because of Cinnamon so ended up using Arch + KDE, been an year and so far it just works.

>Right-click menu is not only faster but way more convenient to use.
>Doesn't immediately switch to the most recently plugged in audio source which made using Dualshock 4 and DualSense controllers an absolute pain in the ass to use on W10.
>The thing for the most part actually remembers which screen you had stuff on if you are using multi monitor setups compared to W10 which loved to reset everything to the default monitor.

Acting like W11 is pure garbage as a whole is being disingenuous. Out of the box I agree it's garbage due to the bloat Microsoft threw onto it and the hoops you have to jump through, but if you debloat with something like WinUtil which takes a whole two minutes everything is significantly smoother than W10 by a large margin and you get tons of benefits. I would never go back to W10 simply due to tabbed windows and the right-click menu being way better. W11 is still garbage out of the box, but debloated it's absolutely better than Vista or the 8s.

Selecting text in anything using standard toolkits like GTK, WxWidgets, Qt, Motif, etc puts text in the primary buffer every time the highlighted text changes. That means dragging to select more will repeatedly overwrite the clipboard. Deselecting text does not empty the primary clipboard.
When you manually copy text using whatever key combo the application uses, it puts it in both the primary and secondary clipboard.
Middle click pastes the primary clipboard.
The key combination to paste will paste the secondary clipboard.
The key combination for secondary copy and paste can vary because it's not a global key combo and has to be handled by the application (or toolkit.)
So basically, secondary clipboard behaves like the standard clipboard you'd expect. Primary is more like a fast way to copy highlighted text from a document to a search field or whatever.

That's why he started work on steam machines and steamOS. It's not to dodge licensing fees which are fairly insignificant compared to making and supporting a whole OS.

Another side benefit is that SteamOS further promotes the usage of steam because by default proton is set up to just work inside of it.

That's what they're doing with Proton. They don't need to create an OS it already exists.

e.g windows 7 embedded POSready ESU only ended in 2024, but mainstream software support ended for windows 7 a few years earlier.
windows 10 mainstream support will probably go a few more years, but if you think the furthest out ESU date is how long you'll be able to play the newest underage panty quest off steam, that's not happening.

If you're dumb, you make a throwaway MS account, make it admin, install 11, then make a local non-admin user account and use that for daily use, never logging into the MS admin account again. If you're really paranoid, after installation make a new local admin account, delete the MS admin account, log into Microsoft's website with that MS account and unlink your PC from it, and you should have no traces of that MS account on that PC anymore.

In a sense, yes. But it's all extremely specialized tasks. Nothing that would ever help you in average day to day. If you're not a developer or already knowing your use case then I doubt you will ever see any benefit out of pro or enterprise editions.

I literally had to make some shitty account to get the 1 extra year than logged out. Its sad they are making you do that but at least it seems there are more factions within Microsoft unlike when 7 died. I think 10 is not going anywhere. Also uninstall copilot the ceo is crazy and wants to spy on you to create a living ai. Its about that rather than making a good OS. Win 11 pro i think actually has more Spyware and locks than ever before. You can't even use a local account rn. Don't use win 11 stay on wins 10 keep the numbers up.
