Do you install QOL mods for your first playthrough of a game?
Anonymous No.723658716 [Report] >>723664406
no, for the same reason i don't use save states. just feels like it goes against the spirit of the game, even if it's fixing an objectively broken mechanic or something like that, i want to experience the game as it was released so i'm not just parroting some opinion

Sometimes. Depends on the game and how cheaty the mods are.

Lol Bloodborne is maybe the 2nd easiest Souls game. If you can't beat the game as is just give up gaming already

Some people don't understand the difference between quality of life and cheats. Like the lamp travel one, that's quality of life. Automatic vial and bullet restocks is a cheat, same with the no boss runback one.

No, because if you mod, you literally did not beat the game, and I prefer beating the games I play.

Eh, I dont think I'd consider vial/bullet resocks a cheat. It isn't at all hard to farm vials, its just time consuming. By the time you might need to farm vials, killing the brutes near the bridge or doing easy chalices has almost no risk attached. As long as it doesn't give you more vials per life or anything.

fuck no, why do zoomers look for romhack of retro games to fix things like cameras.
>this camera is so clunky, i need to find a hack for dis shit no cap
First play the game how its meant to be played and then use mods/hacks on your second playthrough

Buddy, look at all the millennials recommending Subsistence over the original because of the camera, and then jump into another thread and decry Twin Snakes against the original because of the camera.

Depends on the game, but generally no.
Anonymous No.723663983 [Report]
Sometimes
Often on multiple playthroughs after playing it raw (like Dragon Age Origins, combat tweaks v323 for playthroughs after the original)
If it's a bethesda game or something though, 100%

what if the original vision is shit? Take for example Fallout 4, essential improvements like the mod that shows you what you character actually says instead of "ironic", or the mods that makes the UI usable with a mouse, or the mod that makes dark places actually dark

What if there is a good experience hidden under laziness and retardation?

I modded the shit out of Wilds for difficulty when it released. From HR onwards, the I replayed LR with the same mods.
Game was fun as hell, landing offsets actually mattered, even the GArkveld fight was sweaty

Did the same for DD2 but it was more simple. Just XP down, enemy strength up, player stats down (including carry)
Was really fun playing that way, every trip out of town felt like an expedition

Nah, nuthin. idk about now
I'd say it's still worth playing now with the mods, one of my favorite and most memorable playthroughs of a game the past 10 years.
Took me like 120hrs though lmao, apparently average finish times are ~60

The only mods I've used for a first playthrough was with Kingdom Come, and it was just a simple graphical optimization mod. then, 10 hours into the game, I got the mod that skipped the animation for picking herbs.

Im bad at souls games, but no boss runback seems to invalidate the entire game. Half the difficulty was mastering getting back to the boss without expending resources so that you can learn the fight and make mistakes.
Or maybe that's just because I'm shit, idk.

Out of curiosity I looked this up; and sorting by downloads+all time this wasn't true for Fallout 4, NV, Skyrim, BG3, SV, CP2077 and Spiderman. The most popular mod is either smut, libraries or unofficial patches.

Sure but you're gonna avoid doing that as much as possible so the experience is gonna be different

Only if I'm playing slop. I would never dare to install a "QoL" mod to a game I'm hyped. But also right now I'm only hyped for Nioh 3.
Anonymous No.723668537 [Report]
Depends on the game. I think a blanket "No" is fucking retarded.

Rimworld has plenty of actual good QoL shit, like Camera+ to zoom in more, new tabs that show more information like power being generated vs used, RPG inventory to make it easier to see what a colonist is carrying or has equipped, RimHUD makes the UI show more info on your colonists when clicking on them, shit like their status and stats.

I see zero issue using most of them that are actual QoL, RimHUD in particular.

Very much depends on the game but typically no. Main exceptions are things like adding widescreen support, fixing game breaking bugs and crashes, unlocking at least 60fps, etc. Other than that I generally want to understand the suffering before I attempt to remove it.

>Masochists
There wasn't a single boss in that game that took more than a half dozen tries.
What the fuck were you morons doing that made the runbacks terrible?
The runback teaches you how to deal with the boss if you're bad, and if you're not bad take <60 seconds.
Anonymous No.723675909 [Report]
>>723667325
Getting 20 levels at the start makes that part of the game easier. Getting a bigger backstock of vials doesnt make the game easier at any point since you can still only ever carry the same max amount.

Anecdotally it seems like the average BB player only has to farm vials once and and it's half way way through the game, so it's not something you even do at the start, it's something that usually happens against enemies that aren't really threatening anymore.

Usually keep to only using cosmetic mods, but sometimes it's necessary. There's some games I only mean to play once that have content locked behind multiple playthroughs, so I always get the mod that lets you access all of it in a single run.

I installed that and the mod that removes master strikes. I don't care if it makes the game easier, it made the combat actually kind of fun.
