I think the reason so many people predict/want them to both survive is that they were both murder victims and both in the first half of the game. Even in most other cases where a "pair" both died usually one was a culprit and the other was a victim. Making either a victim again would probably seem repetitive and it's hard to image either as a murderer (though I think one probably will be)
