Sara Trantoul is the Soul bonded to the Vampire Killer. In order to get the full benefits, the whip is capable of a Belmont has to wield it. In the franchise we are shown other ways to get the power of the whip, but at a great cost. Do you think, if Castlevania continued, they would have worked in that another Bloodline (the Trantoul Bloodline) would also get the full benefits of the whip? So, the Belmont's aren't the only family with access to that power.

I like that the whip resonates with Belmonts only while everyone else has some downside to content with. My only issue is that Sara should've had a baby before the events of Lament making her sort of the mother to the Belmont clan. As it is she's just Leon's first gf, completely removed from the Belmont bloodline.

No. I like to imagine there wasn't some arbitrary 200 year old waiting period for the Belmonts to return but rather Julius took it upon himself. For example, the VK was tainted from Shaft and even Belmonts could die from wielding it, resulting in them disappearing for a long time. But in 1999 big dick Julius decided to risk it all and use the VK regardless, which in the process essentially cured the VK.

I watched it again and yeah, I get what you mean. It could've just as easily been some chinese metrodivania inspired Castlevania/Bloodstained. But I think this was a problem with 1 too. I liked the game just fine but I think it relied very heavily on CV's laurels rather than having any of its own. That's really my only hope for the sequel, to come up with its own ideas.

The problem is there's nothing in Lament worth salvaging. Its strongest assets are things it has in common with almost every Castlevania game.

I think the 64 games are mostly shit and attempts to rehabilitate its reputation akin to the delusion that a hooker loves you, but they're teeming with interesting enemy designs/encounters and thoughtfully crafted environments (if not necessarily good level design). There is earnest creativity there, as much as I dislike playing them. Lament of Innocence is Devil May Snooze.

There's no clear answer on that. Iga's always treated the 64 games and GBA's Circle as "gaidens", so maybe, just maybe, it's more that they weren't important in the grand scheme of things. Legends was the only that he made it very clear that he doesn't accept that story.

After replaying RoB I've made peace within myself; now I know that I like DXC much better. Yeah, its artstyle is a bit uninspired and that low quality 3D didn't age half as good as RoB's sprites, but despite that I still take it over the original. Lament is flawed but it had a lot good ideas. The sub weapon wheel was neat. The relics were undercooked but still. I can understand many would consider it a bad castlevania game but I won't accept badmouthing Curse of Darkness. It was a good castlevania game, the best 3d castlevania for sure.

Once I finish Rondo I think that's me done with the "main" Classicvanias. Are the 3D games actually worth playing? Or should I just play bloodstained?
