Maybe. I like it very much. This is my favorite genre and I think NG4 is a very good noticabely above average entry in it.
I have played other games like Expedition 33 and Death Stranding 2 this year. Of course they reviewed better, but this genre is just my favorite so it might end up being my GOTY. I haven't finished it yet and I want to give it a couple playthroughs at least before deciding.

Spamming UT was easy mode in NG games, hence why NG3 tried to make it different and so did NG4. Other than that berserk movo, there's nothing that deletes enemies. Easily one of Platinum's best games in terms of gameplay, maybe the best, but I'll reserve judgement until I've finished MN. My only real complaint is the story and characters being kind of sauceless, Yakumo grew on me, but he's definitely no TOAH man. Music is pretty banging though

My expectation is 1 story chapter for each character and we only get 1 new weapon for each character, there's some small new gameplay mode added as well, maybe mission mode

DMC6 is very likely in development right now so maybe 4 years until that comes out. Kumabe (Itsuno's protege) is still at Capcom and he has hinted at the DMC team internally at capcom.
Maybe a DMC remake since the series has been insanely successful in 2025 and even outsold monster hunter last quarter and DMC5 was the only capcom game to sell over a million last quarter.
So since Monster Hunter is dropping the ball right now Capcom is likely to want to invest more resources into DMC and give it an RE style remake.
Otherwise... Kingdom Hearts 4 I guess if you count that. Should be good based on what they learned for the ReMind DLC in 3 now that they can take that and apply it from the start instead of on 3's base.

Its a skill with at least 2 variants (dont remember if theres a third). While in Bloodraven form, press jump and light attsck for the twisting version, or heavy attack for a vertical slash. The tricky part is that you gotta hold down 3 buttons to trigger it, and once Yakumo is up, you have to press jump + attack again to unleash the actual attack, otherwise Yakumo just goes up (which still can be helpful to avoid attacks and escape the preassure)

I'm a 30 y/o boomer too who grew up with 3D NG and I felt the same way about NG4 at first, but the game grew on me. I think the game kind of gives a bad first impression. The opening is weak and it doesn't get fun until you get a few upgrades, but now I'm really enjoying it. Yakumo ain't no Ryu, but his playstyle is cool.

What is it with essence absorption in this game. When I jump and perform a landing UT charge with essence nearby, I always absorb the essence while mid-jump and it never stays there long enough for it to charge up the UT. Why did they change how it works?

Im on chapter 05, playing on hard and enjoying it a lot. Challenging enough that I have to retry purgatory and bosses fights a couple of times, but nothing that keeps me stuck. I also like how fast it ends when you play good with parries a lot, I dont see why people are complaining about it, and I dont mean the "window is too tight" complains, but the "parry is jank/doesnt work", same with the "bloodraven is pointless" argument
