I give it an 85/100. It is first person shooter Arkham Asylum. Don't worry, it is not woke.

Pros:

>game sometimes want to force you into action sequences even when your clan has skills that should trivialize / avoid them, unlike Bloodlines 1
>game kind of cockblocks you, while in Bloodlines 1 your character was having much more action

People will complain about having to walk left and right maintaining the masquerade, but that is part of Bloodlines DNA. This game will make you want to reinstall 1.

This game would have been perfect if it had 7 more sidequests, skillchecks and a character sheet with attributes that you can use to influence dialogue. Also, despite combat being fun, you SHOULD be able to skip it entirely if you have the proper skill for that.

The RPG aspect is very lacking, the interaction with the world through skillchecks is not there, and most of the problems (outside the detective segments) are solved through stealth and combat.

Your abilities are NOT on cooldown, you regenerate them by drinking more blood. So if you are ripping enemies throats open and acting really aggressive, you'll be constantly recovering your skills and doing a domino until everybody is dead around you.

This but I’d be a bit harsher and give it 75/100. I don’t really mind Bloodlines 1 fanboys complaining. Bloodlines is overrated and The Vampire Masquerade: Redemption is way superior in many aspects. My biggest dislike of the original VTMB is not developing the RPG party system from the VTMR and lacking the medieval scene and aesthetic. But Bloodlines 1 managed to keep a pretty convincing horror mood that was possible in mid 2000s. It was no longer the White Wolf Vampire aesthetic but still. That feels completely gone in VTMB2. Maybe I’m just too old but VTMR had a genuinely scary theme of the end times being set in 1999 and VTMB milks that with the mystery of the sarcophagus still. That aspect is simply gone in the new game. The apocalyptic feel is missing despite some happenings in the storyline. Other than that it’s a nice dive in the universe, and a cool noire story with some horror twist, but not horror enough imo. It just feels like the original VTM aesthetic is now lost forever. Just listen to the main theme of VTMR or the background music of the Ocean House Hotel in VTMB. You just don’t feel anything close to that. It’s still an OK game though.

It's not about the lack of guns, it's about the lack of EVERYTHING, lack of melee weapons, lack of enemy types, lack of ways to approach situations by having no speech checks, lockpicking, hacking. The closest parallel I can draw this game to is Cyberpunk, but at least that games traversal involves more than just holding W and there being dozens of enemy types with all the robots/drones/different cybernetic enemies actually changing combat. Even the original game has more engaging combat, and that games combat is notoriously dogshit.

Since it's not an RPG, has a named protagonist with a narrator that you can't disable, and the script seems really cringe and gay based on the screenshots I've seen, I will not be buying as a person who has played the original for years. The combat never put me off, I don't particularly like guns and I like feeling powerful and dodging around, but the characters and script make the game unplayable for me. I was actually somewhat interested when it was about an unnamed Thinblood, and people were suggesting you get your Clan through diablerie or something, I can get into that. But 'Phyre', really?

The save system in this is beyond fucked up. I wanted to see how reloading worked so I selected go back to main menu, knowing I had just recently gotten a checkpoint. When selecting load game, it shows two different quest names. The first one I selected sent me back to the start of the game which immediately triggered an autosave. Selecting the more recent save with a different quest name also sends me back to the start of the game. Apparently I just cannot resume my game so its like my entire playthrough just got wiped out. It was only about 2 hours but this is bizarre. Are checkpoints not counted the same as an actual save? Why can't I manual save? I wanted to give this game a fair shot but this is just unforgivable.
