It blows my mind how lucky Jeet Enix is.
They can butcher a remaster over and over and over again and there are STILL retards who slobber all over the floor and pay for it.
What the fuck. Failure should come with consequences. If you bought this pile of donkey shit I hope you feel ashamed after you figure out how much content you missed out on that they were too lazy to include in this demaster.

WotL content is unbalanced slop, Balthier is a terrible addition

It was a better remaster though gameplay was

Also the original translation is FF7 tier Engrish

When you played FF7 and FFT on the PS1 as a little kid you had no idea what the fuck was going on because the translation was just that bad

I won't buy Ivalice Chronicles because there isn't enough new there and I've already clocked hundreds of hours on the PS1 and played the WotL version and emulator, I've had enough for one lifetime

Who gives a fuck about balance in FFT? The game is at it's best when you're breaking it wide open.
If 1998's Engrish translation was bad, then WotL's Elizabethan "translation" was...not all that great either. There's certainly no way it was more faithful to the original Japanese from 1997. But it's a moot point now that Ivalice Chronicles has doubled down on the WotL version for 99% of it.

Personally I like FFT enough to play the new version just to see what it had to offer, but now that I have I can't say I blame anyone who decides to give it a pass. Especially if you've already played it.
I only played WotL once or twice, I certainly don't think the new jobs or special units are enough to sell it, but it's also not that weird to not like that the re-rerelease has less content than the rerelease. If there's anything from WotL I wish IC had kept, it's the cutscenes, because the new in-battle dialogue is pretty thin stuff.

>It's incredibly unlikely you'll get the 20 human kills naturally for any one unit if you're playing well.
correct, which is why it was probably balanced around the idea you'd be wiping an encounter and spinning your wheels a bit to grind JP on your party. you wipe the fight (except the one bozo you keep alive of course) with the dark knight candidate while the rest of your units jerk off for JP because WoTL added new super high level endgame shit in the co-op missions.

>stupid requirements that no player is going to do naturally
Yeah, sounds like a JRPG to me.
They're meme jobs meant as rewards for players who find that sort of grind incentive enjoyable. This is a Final Fantasy game, after all. Mime kind of already filled that role in the OG, so they added more jobs like that. A lot of games nowadays (Ivalice Chronicles) would just give you an achievement, and nothing else.
Remember FFT is the game in which stat-obsessed minmaxxers intentionally delevel in crap jobs, so they can level back up in good ones, just to boost their stats in a game that absolutely does NOT require that level of optimization.
Anonymous No.723947974 [Report] >>723948086 >>723949475
Playing normally I don't ever get to unlock Mime, Arithmetician, Dancer or Bard. I guess those jobs suck and are unplayable according to anti-wotl idiots. They are trying to argue how optional bonus stuff you're free to mess around with is somehow bad.
Anonymous No.723948086 [Report] >>723948168
>>723947974
you can get bard and dancer pretty early via errands, just gotta swap to the jobs you need for the unlocks. TIC makes it much easier though because you can just say no to every encounter you get on the world map, so no resetting or fighting with a B team needed. Probably could do that with mime and mathmage as well but both are silly meme jobs so I didn't bother, but I did want Move 3 for my Ninja
Anonymous No.723948168 [Report] >>723948261
>>723948086
Playing normally meaning you don't know the exact requirements to minmax job levels in order to beeline endgame jobs anon. If we are doing that then we are minmaxing for those 20 kills as early as fight #1.
Anonymous No.723948261 [Report] >>723948402
>>723948168
>minmax job levels
minmaxing is de-leveling on jobs with bad stat growths and re-leveling on jobs with good stat growths, knowing when jobs are unlocked is not minmaxing lol especially now that TIC is very transparent about their unlock conditions
Anonymous No.723948402 [Report] >>723948467
>>723948261
If you are deliberately getting 2 levels into thief and 3 levels into whatever just so you can beeline Mime then you aren't exactly playing without meta-knowledge. And even if you name it how ever you want then the same can apply for the people that will bother with that playstyle to unlock Dark Knight. The point is that a job being hard to unlock makes very little sense as an argument for why it should be excluded. If anything I can see the case of the opposite, where it's an addition so easy to obtain that it actually changes the balance of the original game.

IC is almost entirely just the War of the Lions translation. E.g. picrel is word for word the same in that scene. Some lines are completely new material, and if that's what Anon is talking about, he can pick his own examples. But instances like "Blame yourself or the Father" replacing "'Tis your birth and faith that wrong you, not I." are actually pretty rare. And complaints about the WotL translation are as old as WotL itself. At least in 1998, shitty PS1 translations were par for the course. I freely admit my bias towards the original, though.

A common complaint concerning the WotL translation wasn't to say the original translation was good (it very much wasn't), but it was way too drawn out and flowerly/Shakespearean to the point of annoyance over a game this long. But having that same dialogue be voice acted is far less annoying, and feels largely fine now really in IC.

Translation is a very weird topic.

The old Working Designs translations for the Lunar games had a very vocal opposition to it for too many American-centric of that specific time period real life pop culture references that a lot of people hated (but Working Designs largely also made sure a lot of games that wouldn't have made its way West still made its way, so it was somethign people put up with).

This new Lunar remaster had people raging that it didn't have the old 90's american pop culture references and shit.

You will never please everyone with a Translation, even with a 100% pure translation because things might come out awkward in translation (generally best with adapting a bit to sound more natural). It's a balancing act, and there will always be some complaints.

A lot of us grew up with 90's and 2000's translations. The "bad" translations of today are still lightyears ahead of older translations, with the notable exceptions of a very few games (the SNES era FF games are actually pretty good for the most part)

There is something to that, but I think it's mostly because it's easier to appreciate the characters as Renaissance festival performers when an additional element of performance (the voice acting) is present, not because the performances elevate the script. It's easier to lean into the campiness when the delivery sounds authentic. It's fun for a playthrough at least.

I will never understand why some super autists on /v/ spend literally their entire lives just bitching about NEW BAD. The original translation blew and literally anyone with a brain will agree. No one will ever take people with your opinion seriously and no amount of retard autism on your part will change that.

Only a problem if you deliberately overlevelled. The random battles' enemies' levels scale with your level while story battles don't.

it's a remake from the ground up of the original game to be as close to the original game as possible, whether or not you find value in that is up to you. you can also just emulate the originals and go on with your day.

It's this. They had no reason to care about it until FF7 was a huge international hit. That was in 1997, the same year FFT came out in Japan. Chrono Cross and Legend of Mana are both from 1999 (2000 in NA).

Bards are good, especially for defensive teams that slowly gain the upper hand. They just won't shine if the rest of your team is "kills 3 units with a single move" busted. I find Bards suited for challenge runs where you restrict yourself from using the overpowered abilities.

Nor the final boss on Tactician.

The enemies will deal 700 damage to all units in a space, so you have to get lucky as hell to not have Alghemst or whatever its called cast on you.

Does that make it so that if you have a warrior at level 2 and then recruit a warrior at level 10, all your warriors will be lever 10?
Anonymous No.723956449 [Report]
>>723956304
No, the new warrior will stay level 10 but you will still have to level the "class level" so your other units get higher. The other cheat makes leveling a new class MUCH faster as well, like 3 battles tops.

I don't remember what happens if you reclass your level 2's to a class that is like level 15 and then back to warrior, haven't played in a while.

the smudgy textures are weird cause it's not like the sprites are like that by default, it's just the filter the game puts on. if you remove it the sprites are actually really good

Almagest is fixed damage equal to their missing HP. Just stop hitting them if you aren't killing them before their turn comes up and focus on debuffs for control.
