Funnily enough, the first game didn't get much traction and discussion either. But those who still played it, me among them, enjoyed their experience and word of mouth spread enough that it was acknowledged as a good game by the time the PC release came around.
This time Yotei had expectations and "hype", but I've honestly forgotten about it too because it appears to be a similar experience to the first game and there are so many good games coming out this year that it's simply lower on the list of priorites.
It's more of "There is a good game waiting for me whenever I find the time".

Because I've played it and don't have much nice to say about it. The world/graphics are beautiful, especially Ishikari Plain, but that's about it. The main character sucks, the story is not good, the writing is shit, and the gameplay/combat feels worse than the first one. The new weapons that replace the sword stances genuinely suck and make the combat worse. It's a 6/10 at best and that's my honest opinion after giving the game a chance. Ghost of Tsushima was a great game, Jin Sakai was a great protagonist. 5 years later though, with zero improvements whatsoever to the combat and formula and with a much more poorly written narrative, it is not so endearing.

Really not sure what to expect in that regard since Jins story only did one clever trick, that being your gameplay style being woven into the narrative (to an extent).
Other than that, it was ... serviceable. So if you say it's a full step worse I expect some real bad stuff.

Anyway, in both cases I'm just interested in the immersion. The first game was such a treasure trove for vistas, taking your time and relaxing slow-walking.
Spent more time in photo mode than in battles. Love the world and I believe Yotei will deliver in that aspect.

Even the different weapons that they advertised just feels like a reskin of the stance system, the game feels just as rock paper scissor as the previous one.
The open world has the exact same activities, except they obfuscated finding things a little.

The story is.... weak. It has one good arc, The Oni, and thats about it. The rest just feels toothless and drawn out. Saito is initially promising as an antagonist, but by the end he looks like the biggest jobber in japan with how little he actually does throughout the game. There is basically no satisfaction in beating him. GoT had a really good ending with your uncle, GoY has basically no equavilent. It just ends. The conclusion is a really hamfisted "revenge is bad lol" type of thing that just feels devoid of any emotion.
