So I bought the Sigma collection instead as it was half off. Started up Sigma 1 on Normal. Is Ninja Gaiden supposed to be so fucking slow? I thought these were supposed to be some legendary action series, this feels like playing fucking Dark Souls with all of the blocking and rolling. Ryu runs slower than my fucking grandmother. I'm on chapter 6 already and it feels so fucking clunky. Moves don't feel like they flow properly, and you have to basically wait for every animation to finish before inputting the next step of a fucking combo.

I can't just hit XYXXXY and izuna a mother fucker, oh lol gotta tap X...Y....X...etc, like I'm an old man who might die if I get too excited. THIS was the series all you fucks praised back in the XBox 1 era?

Never played Bayo 3 but I'd say Yakumo is way better than Nero. Nero was gimped gameplay wise and was too whiny when he wasn't doing his best Dante impersonation. He came into his own quite a bit in 5 at least. Yakumo carries the torch of being a disciplined mission oriented ninja but his edgy one liners, reliance on his team and young headstrong attitude do enough to distinguish him. Animation wise he seems more brutal compared to Ryu too, while pretty much any style of fighting would fit Dante.

Thoughts of a boomer in his 40's:
- Harder than the dmc series and bayonetta
- Focused on clearing everything retardedly quickly as there's too damn many enemies and the camera is dogshit, 80% of the damage taken is from shit you can't see
- Just use the charged heavy with orbs nonstop
- You can spam your blood attacks and berserk without much worry, berserk always reset after a battle so youre better off using it and blood recovers fast
- The tengu dog played exactly like the other bosses, just dodge and blood parry. The characters tell you to fly on that fight but there's no much use for that
- Got B, B, B, B, C, D, A ranks on normal, I died too much on the dog because I thought I was supposed to do something else
- I don't see much point in using the moves with directional inputs as they are shit, except for the bloodraven ones. Bayonetta and dmc got more insteresting movesets
- The weapon movesets are kinda the same
- The huge fish teapots from the mountain can suck my cock
- The game would easily jump from a 7 score to 8+ if they improved the camera
- You can cheat by going on the accessibilty options and coloring all ranged enemies red or other easy color, fuck those niggers
- Cool enemy designs but they kinda mesh with each other, didn't had this issue in bayonetta

Favorite boss is probably Ryu, Final Boss or Kagachi
Favorite weapon is hard... I think Ryu feels really good once I started mixing in his back to forward strings, but there is just some key moves and strings missing that makes it so the Dragon Sword isn't quite my favorite.
I like the dual swords a lot on Yakumo, you can do some cool looking combos with his FS and the Bloodraven projectile. The idle stance in bloodraven is also just baller.

Personally, I think that 4's combat is not quite as frenetic and unhinged as 3RE and there are some key DS moves missing that bring it down just a little bit, but 4's combat is amazingly fun.
3RE moves at a breakneck pace with almost zero filler, but 4 has quite a lot of filler that bloats some of the levels. I'm mostly fine with it, but there are a few sections that just go on for too long.
They're very close for me.
Both have very good and fun combat, but very different from each other so I prefer judging them on their own merits rather than compare.

After beating the game and playing as both Yakumo and Ryu, I unironically think I agree with Platinum's decision to introduce a new protagonist.

Ryu now has the Dante problem where his playstyle is so iconic and established that it feels like he has few places left to go. I think if NG4 was just Ryu with new weapons the game would have lacked a "freshness" factor, it would feel too similar to the old games. Sure they could have totally overhauled his playstyle or done some gimmick like Open World, but that would probably just piss off people even more. As much as I'm not a fan of Yakumo's look, it was good that Platinum created their own character where they put their own spin on NG. Yakumo distinctly makes NG4 feel like its own game, instead of just a bootleg sequel.

Rapier excels in one on one engagements in both base and bloodraven. It's really good at zoning in on a person and dishing out immense damage. The back forward heavy launcher is probably my favorite way to get enemies into the air without spending meter. Like at least in 2 if you fuck up your on landing you might be totally fucked but there are so many extra mechanics to use as a safety net that you're basically playing ZZZ without the asses through huge swathes of the game. Is being able to do an izuna drop on all kinds of enemies intended or a glitch? I've done izuna drops on dogs and ghost fish and it just looks awkward because they fall to the ground and yakumo just izuna drops the air and falls on top of the enemy.

ive done normal, did all the purgatory trials, gone back to chapter select to fight the secret boss on ch6. s ranked a few other missions in normal then tried trials. i hate the idea of doing trials or a master ninja run, just dont have the patience these days. so ill probably pick it from time to time after work and try to s rank a few missions on normal or hard maybe, or fight some bosses

What saved me in that fight was the fact that you can block shots by running, like Raiden in MGR. The first phase i just run until i get close enough for him to dash towards me, then i punish with Bloodraven form. Second phase was sorta bullshit, but after he fires everything he's forced to pause to cool down. I used itens on him, but didn't die.

With it's X attacks you release it during the animation. For the Y attacks you do it after the animation. It's blood form is better than Yatousen's imo, the just release X's do more damage in a shorter window than holding with the drill does.
