DMC5 had a couple things going for it which lead to its massive success
First of all, the marketing campaign was VERY good.
2nd of all, it had two demos
3rd of all, in spite of how much /v/ wants to hate on how it looks, the game looked insanely good on a technical level considering it is a BASE PS4 Xbox One game running at 60 FPS. So new fans and normalfags who played the demo were impressed at how good it felt when they're used to silky smooth 30~ fps on console.
The character models in cutscenes are of an incredibly high quality, very expressive and the voice acting is mostly phenomenal.
NG doesn't really have this.
NG isn't a character focused story, DMC is at its core a character focused story
NG characters don't really grab new players who watch a trailer at some big announcement show being streamed everywhere in the way DMC characters can.

It's the term the nu-GoW devs used to describe their auto targetting system and it honestly makes no sense to call NG4 the same thing because in the nu-GoW games Kratos will literally auto-correct his movement so that attacks that normally wouldn't hit will, like if your enemy is at 10 o clock Kratos will slide diagonal to hit it.

This isn't what NG4 has, NG4 just has an insane amount of forward momentum on a lot of the attacks, which I am not a huge fan of, but its not the same thing

This is only because of the developers being numpties. If they filled the trailers with the new protagonist interacting with Ryu, Ayane, Momiji etc. they would have caught everyone's attention. Ryu appears for about 15% of the game, Ayane has less than two minutes of screentime and that is the ONLY inclusion or reference to past Ninja Gaiden characters in the entire game. I really don’t understand the love that DMC5 gets. I played it for the first time not too long ago and it was one of the most mid games I have ever played. Visually it looks like shit, with no colour, the same biome in every level, and gross mocap. It’s extremely ugly. The challenging difficulties are locked behind multiple playthroughs, so if you only want to play it once through it feels incredibly easy and boring. There’s fuck all enemy variety. The enemies also mostly do jack shit. They usually just stand still and take a beating. There’s whatever the fuck they were trying to do with V. Lastly, the story is disgustingly bad and makes no sense. I hate everything about the game.

The reason DMC5 was well liked and sold a lot (it didn't sell millions at launch but eventually did through good word of mouth and sales) compared to NG4's failure is almost purely down to presentation and narrative decisions. I am as big of a NG fan as possible, I like all the games even the shit ones. I am also a big DMC fan, but not as much as I am a NG fan.

From my perspective as a DMC fan, looking at DMC5 from its marketing and at its release, here's what I got:

Not really, the games were directed by Hayashi. Itagaki let him do what he wanted with the first sigma. By the time of sigma 2 he was already out. This was a common thing in Japan when the key devs couldn't reach an agreement, games had different versions. See Famicom ports of some Konami games as examples. Ninja Gaiden 4 literally changed my perspective on gaming as a whole, I expect much higher quality now from other games and if they can't offer it, I simply will not waste my time or money on those products.

I used to be a big fan of both FromSoftware and Team Ninja, but Ninja Gaiden 4 exposed the mediocrity of these two studios and their games to me. Not just as gameplay products, but products on a technical level. This new upgraded Platinum Games engine is amazing, I run Ninja Gaiden 4 at native 1440p locked 144fps max settings v-sync disabled and it is extremely responsive and the input lag is almost 0, no other action game feels as responsive as Ninja Gaiden 4.

FromSoftware hasn't made anything good or interesting for a very long time, their best games are Sekiro and Armored Core VI. Team Ninja is worse, they also haven't made a good game for a long time. Both these studios must do much better if they want my money for their future products.

I am keeping a close eye on Platinum Games and their next game that comes to PC and uses this engine, I will most likely pre-order the most expensive edition, especially if the rumors are true and their next game is the AAA Castlevania.

Platinum Games recently made that game mode for the MGS3 Remake and it had a lot of "Castlevania" aesthetic/vibes to it. The MGS3 Remake also has a scene parodying and referencing MGR.

There's no concrete proof, but Andy Robinson on VGC who leaked Silent Hill 2 Remake and MGS Delta also said Konami is working on an AAA Castlevania with help from another japanese studio. just finished the game on hard first playthrough. took a long time cause I've never played NG before and I sucked. Credits are rolling now.

Now that I think about it. The barrier to entry for OG2 is pretty high. You either need a beefy PC or an Xbox Series X to really play it properly. Then you have 30-40 hours just to get your first MN clear. Then you have another 40-200 hours just playing it before you scratch the surface. Not everyone will even beat MN because of the ridiculous resource scarcity on your first run. You also have to enjoy difficult/challenging things for the game to click with you. So already the following groups get filtered out.

They all take the exact same amount of time. It does not matter what you are loading, every load screen takes like 4 seconds.
Changing the title screen back to how it was before you finish the game has a loading screen. And it takes 4 seconds.

The hitboxes operate on a subatomic level and the enemy AI patterns are essentially chaotic systems governed by strange attractors. Ryu’s i-frames function like quantum tunneling events, letting him phase through damage in ways that defy classical mechanics. Well it's undeniable. Compared to the first two games, 3 feels butchered and lacks content from the previous games.
4 fixes that, but I dislike the fact in it that there is stupidly little Ryu Hayabusa in it.

2 felt good. Started it on Hard. More fluid, more enemies, faster overall. Less clunky. Camera is still dog shit, but better than 1.

I feeling like NG1 needs a ground up remake. Fix the weirdly stilted and slow combat, fix the camera. The difficulty in the game seems to come mostly from poor balance and cheap enemy design plus fighting the dog shit camera.

The strings for weapons feel wildly imbalanced. Some are fast, have a gazillion frames of invulnerability, and do monster damage, compared to long, slow, shit damage with little invul. The whole move list needs a lookover.
