This is pretty true especially in the first ZX game, the game was solid whenever it went back to being a Zero game instead of making you wander around the map doing sidequests. ZX advent honestly has too many interruptions during levels that force you to change to clunkier forms to traverse and then immediately ditch those forms to go back to something more mobile.

It's very much a cultural thing. Japanese businesses rarely understand escalation. Their game is delayed so they sit on their hands with their thumbs up their asses being good boys and girls.

Regardless of the Majogami situation, Steam has been letting stuff like this happen too much. A storefront that represents the vast PC playerbase refusing games based on vague or nonpresent issues and leaving them in limbos on the day it was supposed to release is fucked up.

It's also happening far too often with Japanese titles, and nowhere close to as often if at all for Western titles, so there's seemingly an element of eastern hate here, or more specifically towards many "anime"-esque settings and depictions. I know of the Mary issues, but you'd think steps would be taken to properly handle that work, instead it keeps happening whilst other shit gets through.

The fact that sites like GOG are fighting this on both fronts is also confusing, and I worry for the state of censorship in the future. Not just of the games creatively, but simply their existence being censored on a popular scale by refusing access to it.

I'm 5 hours in and so far the gameplay feels like a dumbed down version of GV3. I hate how quickly you run out of teleports, and that you only recharge one gauge while the rest go to melee attacks. I get that this is their solution to make melee attack useful than it was in GV3, but it just makes the game more annoying. I'd much rather be zapping everything from a distance like I could with Kirin.

It's also annoying how they lock double jump behind Astral Mode. I feel like I've lost a lot of mobility because of it. I'm already missing GV3.

That's basically how I felt from the demo so I'm glad for confirmation that the rest of the game is similar. It's frustrating because on paper I can understand what they are trying to do – make a more mechanically diverse version of GV3 that isn't just about arc chaining – but it feels like they got as far as gimping the arc chain and making it feel like shit to use, adding more aggressive (desu kind of sloppily designed, visually difficult to read) enemy types, then threw their hands up and said "job done!" The closest they came to an interesting mechanic is the directional cutting.

What they needed imo is more rounded player abilities (projectiles would be nice because they allow you to always be doing something) and enemies with projectiles and zoning capabilities to make teleporting useful as part of a mixed toolset. And a nicer teleport with some hitstop on it and more visual flair. But the demo just felt like what GV3 detractors claim about that game, that it's just arc chain spam

Metroidvania's don't have retries/lives, nor do they have instant death elements everywhere, since MV's core focus is exploration, whereas in ZX it's secondary, even discouraged because you get locked out of areas and bosses if you don't have the proper mission selected. It's the only game that truely expanded on what they tried to do in Zero 1. But NOTHING is ability locked.

ZXA on the other hand does have ability locks, but it has no exploration, it is even more true to being an pure action game.

ZXA is a good game period. It has some of Inti's best rooms (first of Bifrost stage in the sewer, last of Ouroboros with the regen blocks) but then you also have rooms like the elevator shaft in queenbee's stage, so high highs, low lows, I do feel ZX has better stage quality on average, but it gets weighed down by the quadruple autoscroller at the end.

The interruptions are tedious because you get forced into Model A for every fucking cutscene. Having warpable rooms injected between almost every stage segment really drags the game down as well going through these empty rooms and door transitions that serve nothing but to alleviate the whining about ZX's map. Which is bizarre in the first place since complaining about a map in a megaman game, that's not even a third the size of super metroid is hilarious. The vast majority of them are willing, but Valve has a massive review problem. They don't have enough employees (only 350 or so, Valve's employee count is TINY compared to other corporations) and they have to go through 50+ games a day. And this means they often don't work with the devs and they don't accept resubmissions. The employees have a ton of autonomy too, which makes it inconsistent. So you might get a nice one who'll try to help the dev out for as long as needed, or they might be total cunts like Mary and just ban something with no chance of doing anything about it just because she thinks a character behaves childishly despite being 19. A lot of the porn publishers seem to have been assigned to or built ties with certain reviewers, but someone trying to self publish or a publisher who isn't in the loop can get Mary.
Valve needs to hire more reviewers and allow resubmissions. Until that happens, they'll keep being schizo about what gets onto Steam or not. Right now, the safest bet is to just go scorched earth on any suggestive loli content and patch it out unless you want to play the reviewer roulette.
