I anticipate that the game will be serviceable, but nothing really beyond that. Silksong already gave me my fill of Metroidvania goodness, and I just don't think Retro can match them.

No, you're right. Nintendo's been dropping the ball with their release schedule, especially for S2 exclusives. It's very port and spinoff heavy so far. The Switch 2 feels like it's a continuation of the Switch's twilight-years momentum and focus (and it doesn't help that the exclusives we have were almost entirely explicitly made for the Switch 1 originally) rather than a bold and wholly new Nintendo platform. It's the same kind of intentional muddying of generations and aversion to totally committing to a new gen that also befell Xbox and Playstation (albeit with a couple more exclusives than Literally Fucking None), and I wouldn't be shocked if this doesn't improve much this time next year.

The thing that really messes with my brain is that we'll get a trailer out of nowhere for something new for the Switch 2, and it'll be an upgrade for a game on Switch. I'm all for the upgrade packs they promised, but it'll be for something like Animal Crossing - a game they released five years ago that they basically gave up on content updates for a little shy after two years or so and have left the public conciousness, when a game that recently released like Xenoblade X, three months prior to the Switch 2, is left at 30 fps with no HDR upgrade when the game could absolutely shine even brighter with and take full advantage of both a framerate and graphics boost to soft-relaunch it as a "first-year launch title", and on top of that, the game has an active glitch on Switch 2 where the audio in cutscenes desyncs that's been unpatched still. I know it's bias towards one game against the other, but it drives me mental that the big idea for a Switch 2 upgrade game reveal was:

I genuinely CANNOT WAIT for Metroid Prime 4. The mouse functionality in the game made me and my wife buy a Switch 2 at launch. So hyped. Bananza was just icing on the cake. It looks perfect. Gonna go nicely on my 48" OLED monitor in HDR and my wife's 42" OLED monitor in HDR.

Marketing in general is just kinda ass these days. The only way anyone knows about the game is if you've already got a Switch 1/2 and you browse the shop regularly.
For me though, I don't have much hope of it being that good, mainly due to the fact that the franchise is all about these hand-crafted, just-linear-enough maps that look like they're from a gen or two in the future, only for half of MP4's advertising to show off the open desert map that looks generic as hell and Samus riding Viola like having a mount in a game is some new special thing.

Nintendo spent all of the budget for Prime 4 on making the best Metroid game possible that's full of SOUL and cool new fresh ideas and didn't have much left over to use for marketing so that's why the marketing seems nonexistent. Once the game is out and people see how revolutionary it is the word of mouth will do all of the advertising for Prime 4.

The difference in marketing between Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime 4 is insane. You can tell which Metroid games get the higher priority.

I got mad and didn't like it at first until I realized that you just have to die a few times until you memorize boss patterns. Luckily the fights are quick whether or not you lose. I still hate the Chozo robots though, fuck those guys. The first fight with them is a pretty big difficulty spike.

Don't forget Zero Mission's GO HERE icons. Still great games though. Dread does a good job of leading you around without explicitly showing you where to go. I still get lost a lot in Dread but that's fine. Prime 3 had the upgrade icons on the map but they were optional. I usually do it at the very end of the game when I've missed one or two expansions so I don't have to turn the music off and comb the entire game again like Prime 1 and 2.

I was gonna play the first 3 games before this comes out, but Prime 2's dark work fucking sucks and now I don't feel like playing them all

That's not true and were this an UE5 thread you'd be spouting the contrary without being any the wiser. Games looks worse and run worse despite processing power being tens of times better than it used to be. Talentless hacks have ran this industry to the ground and while it was just a few japs some decade ago now it's the industry standard to get served multiple teraflops and get it to look like megaflops.

My thoughts are that atleast Metroid has more than three good games.

I don‘t even care about the motorbike shit or puzzles. My issue is that the combat is still basic as hell. It was servicable in prime but it‘s been over 20 years and they‘re releasing another game with the same combat. Locking on and strafing left/right in a current day shooter is pathetic
