A person focusing on racing and pulling themselves up instead of focusing on items and pushing me down is good for me. Nerfing surfing rather than nerfing the things that cause people to choose surfing in the first place will just make the surfers switch to a more degenerate build and make everything worse. The last thing I want is good drivers to be converted to baggers that can take the best advantage of it. At least when they are surfing they are having to put in extra effort to have a chance of breaking away and staying ahead.

Make the invulnerability shorter so it's not as long as the shield item so you can't link invulnerabilities anymore.
Fix desync so you actually see when someone is fully charged and actually uses the damn thing.
Nerf ring loss/item strength for a few items so we don't have to suffer with so many portals and lock-ons.
Give power cars the ability to actually be bumper bullies and shove surfers aside (even when they're invul).
Give accel cars something to compete with the rest (like offroad capabilities, just to compete with surfers and other builds).

Some of the ideas I had but the biggest priorities for me would be desync, item nerfs and power cars actually beating EGs in collision.

Stop playing dumb, when two players play comparably they are going to end up close to each other, so even a small hit can decide who wins and is forward, and as you are Silver Surfing, roughly 66% of the items in the game I can get from a box do nothing to me, but everything "you" get has an use against me. The items aren't really any stronger than in Mario Kart. When you're even remotely close to someone, they will always take you over if you take a shell to the face, it's just that everyone is closer together in Crossworlds.
Anyway, I would be very surprised if Sega didn't nerf your playstyle in a few weeks, we're shortly due for the patch which according to the roadmap is going to have balance changes, so you should prepare for that.

You should actually try the build out since your claims are way too exaggerated. You are far from invulnerable and you take on a number of disadvantages to even have a chance of blocking a few items. I think half of the problem is just desync causing everyone to potentially not take damage even when the game shows a hit confirm on your screen. List of priorities
1/ fix the desync and network issues, technical problems should always be tackled first
2/ make throwing items backwards a more consistant defensive play, as it stands now it's absolutely dogshit
3/ lower frequency of comeback items to reduce the density of the pack and stop every final corner being a cascade of drills, trucks and teleports
4/ add a counter to the slicer and remove homing from green gloves just because why the fuck do you need three red shells

That was just someone seeing how many the current hud supports if they did have them, they don't.
Though issue with a mod that would add more costume slots is what would happen if you played that online with people without the mod.

I think despite the balance quirks, it's actually kind of impressive to have the top ranks of this game be filled with 3 distinct but similarly viable builds

I don't know how it works, but I remember a few times I played as Tails (king of acceleration) with mini ring boost + ring boost on a truck (no QR) and ring generation shit and I luckily got hit as I picked up a ring and basically didn't slow down at all. Usually I will though, but getting hit in a ring area barely does anything with this set up too bad it seems the game HATES big vehicles in the air so if I get touched by any vehicle in the air, I fly to hell and they are unaffected. The smaller they are, the further I fly. Stupid fucking game

I think a good change for Silver Surfer would be to make the duration you're invincible directly tied to how fast you can charge a level 4. If your build is centered around spamming level 4s, then it should be an extremely brief stint of invincibility, while if you're running no drift gadgets other than Ultimate Charge, it should last a few seconds since you're barely getting to use it. It's the best idea I can think of that doesn't come down to just flat out nuking it from the game like Monster Truck Starter and Inventory Plus / Swap deserve to be.

Wrong. You get level 4 boosts faster than normal, but in terms of snaking it's still much slower than spamming level 2s in addition to taking really suboptimal lines. Someone spamming level 2s uninterrupted would easily keep up with and pass a silver surfer spamming level 4s since there's no difference in boost speed between 2 and 4.

This is awful. Collision is just 2 whole rings, so 50% gets it up to 3, which is less than mini ring thief that also gives them to you. There's no reason to ever take it over Ring Thief, this is worse than both of the variants and doesn't even benefit you. It'd require a Power overhaul to make sense, so with it an EG Miku loses like at least base 10 rings if she dares even think about touching a Chadvok/Pirate Knuckles on a Power Vehicle with the power kit

If I were to buff accel it'd actually be making it affect the thresholds for ring speed increases.
For example, with 100 accel, you could get the effect of 100 rings at only 80 rings.
I like the current balance of ring #100 being just as valuable as the first 99, so this effect would probably be exclusive to accel machines or a starting threshold of the stat (maybe every point above 60 accel discounts half a ring).
Fits the theme of acceleration since it shortens the amount of rings you need to collect

Power affecting bumping is such a no-brainer I'm shocked it's not already like that.
Speed getting ring range up feels a bit gimmicky, even if I understand the connection. I feel like the speed stat just needs a slightly stronger effect on your top speed.

Since that guy went on a weird Reddit meltdown against someone who wasn't even the person he started the conversation with, I'll just post the ideas I had for item nerfs. Some of these might not be good, so I want to hear what other anons think.

I can see this causing unexpected problems if people hoard them once they get them. This would give them an advantage as one of the few people who can actually exploit the items and it would also reduce the ability of others to catch up if the max number of items are being held. It would be better to do something to force the items to be used for catching up with no way to smuggle them forward. If the item has no value for taking a good position in the race, there would be no reason to hold onto it and ending up in a situation where everyone is using it at the same time.

If you came into this thread just from seeing the video without having played the game and knowing what is going on, only 1 out of 4 of those items actually hit. It is just the net code incorrectly showing a hit confirm before the other player's game reported back that they didn't get hit. It wouldn't be all that unreasonable to get away with only a single hit over three sets of item boxes in Mario Kart either assuming no blue shell, lightning, or a 3rd place player in range to also attack 1st. Really, considering from the perspective of how this would have played out in Mario Kart, this probably would have also worked out about the same without the level 4 shield if spike ball and punches weren't worthless for blocking items in curves compared to bananas and shells.

Generally agree with most of these. Green glove lock-on is too easy to achieve and makes red and green feel too similar. In addition I think locking drills and monster trucks to the special item boxes would be ideal instead of just letting them infest regular boxes. Nearly everyone in an average WM lobby can be considered one large predictable mass.
e.g. When the race starts, you can do level 3s until everyone hits their first items, then you can time your first level 4 right when everyone finishes rolling so you avoid the mass of items imploding on itself. After that you can often provoke someone into throwing their punch or popping their tornado on your active level 4 by just snaking into them repeatedly, but higher ranked people are starting to pick up on meta spots where level 4s are impossible or very difficult to get in time. If you make your way to 1st, it's then a matter of looking at the minimap to see when the horde runs into item boxes and timing your level 4s appropriately.
Having low rings is bad but getting hit is so much worse that it doesn't matter most of the time, and you can still get rings when you find an early frontrun anyway

The third lap ruins everything and is designed like shit. The moment you go into the section where the creepers blow up the road, it becomes extremely low quality.

what I personally like about it is that everyone's portrayed as in-character, especially Sonic with this moment with him taking Amy aside and making sure she's ok. He's considerate like that.
I also appreciate how the chaotix shine through and crack a case no one expected them to. Maybe they could've driven that last point home a bit further but it's all done really well in my opinion.
