Most memorable for me?

Dark Suns: Shattered Lands.
Did a playthrough every year or two for about a decade with a team named after my family members. Up until the floppy disc became corrupted and parts of the game stopped working.

I didn't have a really good PC of my own until I built my first gaming PC in 2008. I have really fond memories of those first years playing games on it. I built it specifically to play Team Fortress 2. I played through Oblivion, Devil May Cry 4.and tons of other games. I was blown away by how good stuff looked. That was the turning point when I became a PC gamer.

Prior to that, I was using Pentium 3-equivalent PC's (ATHLON and VIA) that couldn't really play high-end games at all. I was mainly a console gamer during the 90's and 2000's, just about everybody I knew was a console gamer.

hell fucking yeah brother
Out of nostalgia me and my bros played on a thirdie server for two months straight in 2023 or so. It was modeled after gta online so had tangible "progress". The data center which housed the server (among lots of actually important shit) burned down and when they got a backup running they handed out a bunch of bonuses. Good times, and it was a reminder of how fragile this thing of ours really is

UO caused MMORPG to be a household abbreviation. There were international articles published about a new "virtual world". It single-handedly created the 90s MMO-hype (on top of years of text-only MUDs).

Blizzard saw that hype, took it all for themselves, blew everyone away for a while and then quietly killed the entire genre.

I bought that new back in the day and I tried to like it, I really tried. I like the art style, I like isometric games, I like vaguely RPG like action games, but this... god you need infinite patience. The controls could only be imagined by a person who had video games described to them via. 10 rounds of machine translation, you get so very easily stunlocked by every enemy, the retry points always seem to be WAY back before the last really annoying section rather than immediately after and more often than not they try to convey you shouldn't be in a place by putting an enemy that's basically impossible to avoid, and then not 5 mins later they pull the same shit except THIS time you're just expected to thread the fucking needle and just KNOW that this time we didn't mean to make a roadblock, we are just asshole french and did it anyway through malice and incompetence.
What's even more hilarious is they remade it recently and somehow made it even worse.

>Fucking strippers who show their tits to you when you given them money
>We put in the cheats his brother wrote down and fly around on a jetpack shitting money everywhere and shrinking the strippers with the shrink ray
I don't even care for Duke anymore, I prefer Doom and Quake, but damn it was magical at the time.

I'm guessing it wasn't OG duke3d, because that was out like 2 years before the 3dfx and being a raycasted 2.5D game wasn't really suited to a polygon rasteriser card anyway.

Literally no one thought this. I played games on my GB, GBC, GBA, DS and never once basedfaced over how incredible it was to have gaming on the go. It was convenient but it just was what it was.

Hard to pick. For me personally it's a toss-up between
>MNOG (or one of the other Bionicle web games)
>those Nancy Drew point-and-click games
>Club Penguin
>Roblox
>Plants vs. Zombies
I was just a little kid at the time so I don't remember a lot of the games I played back then super well. One of these days I'll have to go get all the old disks from my parents' house and revisit some of them

In videogame terms, 28 is ancient. You've experienced the tailend of the first generations (games that new generations couldn't play, because they require actual imagination to fill the gaps of the state of technology) and the state of the art, photorealistic triple-ass turboslop.

This is how I felt about minesweeper. It feels lame to lose a game when you are having to click based on random chance rather than looking at the numbers. I guess I feel that way about RNG-based failure states in general.
