Nuclear energy is so clean bro just have a bunch of people mine and transport all this radioactive uranium and get cancer but who gives a fuck they're just miners and truckers

Then once you get 1 teeny tiny little rod from like 100 tonnes of uranium ore you can use for a couple months, you have a bunch of radioactive waste no one knows what to do with and there's no where to put it

Literally all of Europe just has nuclear waste sitting around in concrete containers because there's no where to put it

This isn't even mentioning tards inevitably having leaks/meltdowns

1. people don't get irradiated in plants, it is very easy to contain radiation with water and lead
2. once it is used up it is stored safely 1500km below ground where it runs out it's half life in more water for extra safety
3. no it does not, you're an idiot
4. there are not tards working in plants, chernobyl was the outcome of dozens of wrong decisions all at once, modern plants are idiot-proof

No, and it's because eurocrats are fucking stupid - they forbid oil purchase from Russia because putinhitler, then they just buy the oil through india, which comes from russia in the first place. The US Navy doesn't have any problems, and they have never stopped commissioning reactors. 250+ reactors are currently operated by barely literate 18-24 year olds, and there has never been a meltdown on a ship. Cope.

CO2 is a nearly irrelevant greenhouse gas compared to water vapor, let alone just anthropogenic CO2.

1) Water vapor
2) The sun
3) Volcanic activity

All shit you don't control which has an infinitely bigger impact on climate than (anthropogenic) atmospheric CO2.

Earth is currently ~400ppm CO2, you believe in the distant past the Earth was up to 9000ppm and way hotter, because I guess the dinosaurs were very industrial and driving a lot of cars huh?

okay, and? Tritium is in the air you're breathing right now. there's constant trace amounts of it in the atmosphere from cosmic rays bombarding the earth. It's also the weakest radioactive isotope, only emitting low-energy beta radiation, which can't even penetrate your skin. you'd have to inhale significant concentrations of it for extended times to have any noticeable effect.

Radioactive waste can be recycled and used again. The technology has been around for decades.
America chooses not to do it because it's cheaper to mine more uranium here.
Japan recycles their waste because they don't have easy access to uranium resources.
Recycling the waste also depletes more of its radioactivity. Meaning you don't have to store it for as long before it's safe.

it's been tried countless times. NIMBY is a hell of a drug. the fucking vatniks didn't help things by going and blowing up a reactor. 3 mile island can be explained away by "well the safety systems worked as intended and nothing serious happened". Fukushima got hit by a fucking tsunami and an earthquake and it STILL didn't melt down. sure it leaked out a bunch of radioactive particles, but again it got hit by a damn earthquake followed up by a tsunami, can't really do much to prevent that. But Chernobyl is just this giant black stain in everyone's minds whenever the topic comes up. "ahh yes, let's disable all the safety systems and push the reactor into a critical state for absolutely no good reason", fucking idiotic drunk slavs. Modern nuclear plants are so safe with multiple redundant safety systems and fail-safes to prevent accidents and fuck-ups. You could probably carpet bomb one and it still wouldn't melt down. But "muh chernobyl" and "muh waste" is all that comes out of normalfag's mouths when you mention nuclear power.

the largest casualty counts from that incident come from a chemical tank rupturing (16) and the evacuation of the area (51)
mind also that this is the worst case of a nuclear power incident outside of Chernobyl which the soviets where actively trying to fuck up at every step, and you still have the safest, most space- and resource-efficient power source on the planet and possibly the only one that can meet most if not all sustainability goals without demanding human sacrifice on a scale that would have the Aztecs calling us unenlightened, murderous savages or paving over the entire wilderness and "only" doing Aztec-scale mass human sacrifice.

It's also an unrealistic depiction of nuclear fallout.
Fallout from a nuclear bomb lasts a few days. Not hundreds of years.
The radiation sickness in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was caused by exposure to the initial blast.
Fallout shelters are designed to last a week, not 100 years.
They're only designed to save people within a certain range of the blast. Underground to block the radiation and guard from effects of the blast wave.

not to mention that the fallout from modern nuclear weapons is pretty low since they're designed to be efficient
every bit of nuclear fallout is effectively part of a nuke that didn't get turned into energy and wasted weight on the bomb

and what we really want from modern day nuclear weapons isn't widescale destruction or fallout, it's the ability to destroy enemy nukes so the weapons need to be highly efficient so we can jam more warheads into the ICBM's which can then accurately strike enemy nuclear silos

>Why don't people just swap to nuke power?
but I've recently realized the problem with the notion of it being safe if it's managed properly. That is
> If it's managed properly

There's your killing stroke. Your power plant will be managed by the yakuza, the mob, or the cartels. Everything will be embezzled. The most important safety wall will be made out of styrofoam dipped in concrete. The manager of the facility didn't graduate 4th grade. The nuclear technicians all have theoretical degrees in physics.

If things were that bad at a coal or gas plant, the worst that happens is a huge explosion that kills everyone in the facility. And a few people nearby enough.

I will trust a nuclear power plant managed by Christ himself and no one else. Fuck humanity. I hate being human. I wish Christ would come again tonight so at least we'd all stop being collectively murderously retarded. I'd even be a potted plant in eternity in God's house so long as this stupid shit is over.

its not the blast or the explosion that makes people sick its the "fallout" which is radioactive dirt particles kicked up by the explosion. If a person washes it off quickly they'll be alright

Most nuclear fallout is dust created when a bomb detonates close to the earth and is exposed to the actual nuclear payload. It also turns out that exploding near the earth fucking sucks at making your bomb destructive. So every nuclear power on Earth has swapped to airburst nukes because they're just outright better at killing people than sea-level detonated ones, without the "scary" results of irradiating the place horribly.

Nuclear war will be bad because society will collapse from population centers exploding, not because of spooky radiation.

friendly reminder that molten salt rectors can burn spent fuel
if classic solid fuel reactors are replaced with molten salt then all the stored spent fuel will slowly be removed
but molten salt reactors can't produce bomb material, that's why they never got proper government funding

The sitting president of the united states has fired any oversight to his current construction project and has provided zero architectural drawings of what the actual thing is going to look like beyond renders of a gold ballroom. Zero contractors have stepped forward saying they're the ones building the great ballroom, zero architects have claimed it either, there's no permits, the numbers on budget, size, and seating capacity is constantly shifting.

The nuclear waste a modern reactor produces is in the form of dry, heavy, metallic objects, safely encased in concrete caskets directly on site. Parts are recycled, parts will be radioactive for a few hundred years. We could easily shoot it down a thousand kilometers below ground and let it rot there as long as necessary in geologically stable rock that will ever come even close to our ground water.

Either way it's cleaner, easier to contain vastly less radioactive than all of those highly toxic gases and ashes from coal plants, gas plants etc. Or downright the true forever chemicals used and released from lipo production, solar panels and more.

in a perfect world, nuclear fission should have been the temporary solution while the world got together and focused on cracking nuclear fusion

something we'd eventually look back on as a shame we had to resort to, but still better than the alternatives, before we reached a truly good source of energy

There are solar plants that work this way. Lots of mirrors that reflect light onto a central tower to boil water.
I don't know if those are more or less efficient than modern solar panels.
Certainly modern panels are more versatile. You can put them anywhere and don't need a massive facility.
