Do not pre-order. You don't get anything in game. Do not buy the special edition, all you get are some map sprites of holy sites around the world-which are immediately available to buy (pirate) separately.

I already bought it and pre-downloaded it

Paradox has been incredible with the development of this game and the dev diaries so I will support it. The bones and fundamentals of this game look solid and I literally cannot imagine playing another game of EU4 because of it.

It's the DLC that I will be pirating however.

Basically everyone that's played the game has said that the AI seems to not really understand the systems yet, and Paradox has been actively releasing patches like mad trying to improve it on that front. It seems like they'll need a few major AI overhauls to really get the game solid, everyone seems to agree that from a systems perspective it's the best vanilla launch of a Paradox game in over a decade.

I could never get into paradox games other than Crusader kings. The idea of playing some abstract, disembodied idea of a nation is very strange. You don't play as the government, because that can be changed, even by revolts, and you are still in charge. It feels too game-y for me.
