I’m very excited but I don’t think I’d be very excited if I wasn’t already a Metroid fan/tendie.

They keep showing the same handful of zones which makes me think they don’t want to spoil much, but it’s definitely coming at the cost of getting people who aren’t Metroidfags interested.

Cutscenes look super cool though. Iirc they hired a bunch of animators from studios like Naughty Dog/Santa Monica studio and that seems to have paid off.

It seems like the open areas will probably have some kind of condition that will make them particularly hazardous and not some place where you're supposed to linger around for long. The plot in those games is basically nonexistent. The story is basically that Samus goes to an alien planet and discovers this radioactive stuff called Phazon that mutated a Metroid and turned it into an extremely powerful alien monster. Samus sort of kills the Metroid form of it but falls into it so it absorbs her DNA and turns into a mutant creature resembling her called Dark Samus. She spends the next two games going to different planets to hang with the locals and hunt down and kill Dark Samus.

The ending of Prime 3 provides closure to that story arc, so whatever happens in Prime 4 will be something new entirely.

Provided that there aren't any retcons going forward, it's more likely than not that Ridley won't show up in a post Fusion game since he was killed in Super, the bottle ship from Other M was blown up and same with the BSL station from Fusion where they stored genetic data of Ridley. It's possible, but that would require having a planet where the baby Ridleys naturally live, and that would mean there's going to be a lot more than one Ridley, though if they went with that angle I wouldn't mind it if there were different evolutions of the species depending on the environment.
