>People hype up a childhood game as really hard and punishing >Play it >The challenge is not being an illiterate impatient 9 year old
I expected it but it's still a little disappointing.
I believe not every game needs to be challenging. Some games can be fun with minimal/soft fail states. Sometimes its compelling to just grind away or simply vibe with a game.

True, but sometimes games are so easy that there isn't any real incentive to engage with the mechanics. Not everything needs to be difficult to be fun, but it can also be disappointing if some aspects of the game are effectively rendered meaningless by low difficulty.
