While you didn't bring them up the Germans fucked off to the Midwest/Great Lakes regions and became so enmeshed with the land as farmers that when WW1 came around they purged themselves of most of their German Heritage to not get wrapped up in any cultural backlash.
The Irish glommed onto city politics and so developed a portion of themselves into a caste of civil servants which culturally integrated them slowly so by the 1980s they were fully Americanized despite any copes.
The Italians didn't integrate themselves into the political machines as a powerbase and so unlike the Irish became a more insular group supported by crime until they just outlasted any racial prejudices.
Meanwhile the Jewish immigrants, due to their cultural focus on education and finance had a larger group of middle class workers coming over and so were able to use those middle class positions and resulting the trickle down wealth to Jewish owned businesses to normalize themselves without having to integrate that much.
Blacks on the other hand were never meant to be integrated at all, they were brought over to be used for labor and even after independence the founding father just assumed that slaves would resolve itself in a few generations. Even Lincoln wanted to ship them back to Africa, and because of nobody really wanting of them around we never bothered to properly integrate them until it was to late and they had formed a cultural cloister.
As for Indians they are being invited in by businesses and are on route to follow a path like Hispanics but for white color jobs instead of blue color jobs.
Basically its less a matter of holding a sword to a population or now, and more about offering them a pathway into the culture and seeing if they take it or not, and if they don't then we will have to deal with them lingering around until people become normalized to them.
