I've never played a single game that didn't work on Linux. I play a lot of obscure 90s pc games. Emulate all consoles. And some AAA games like expedition 33.

As far as I know only very specific Chinese multi-player games dont work on linux

You know speaking of, it's sort of funny how fucked the perspective on the Steam Deck is because like, actual organic gaming communities don't exist anymore and Valve doesn't pay for ads for it.
So people are just like, playing games on them.
And then the chinese and other retards ruined it because "popular games on the steam deck" became something people licensed out top spots on by botting
Because IIRC the deck top played doesn't actually check if it's being played on a steam deck, just if it uses the steamOS iso and is currently in game mode which is where you get frankly mindboggling shit like a stardew valley clone with 500 active players having a higher ranking than fucking TERRARIA

custom resolutions are always a bit hacky, because resolutions are inherently about what the monitor says it supports.
what you can do is run your shit through gamescope and fake whatever resolution you need for specific applications.

I've been on Linux since 2020 and recently needed to install Windows 10 on a spare SSD because I wanted to join my friends playing Battlefield 6, which uses mandatory EA spyware.
Also, recently snagged an Oculus Rift CV1 for cheap to dip my toes into VR, and as far as I can see the project to get its controller tracking working properly in Linux has been abandoned for years.
These are both edge cases though, and I feel I shouldn't need to bend over backwards to please EA just to play their game. The Rift is ancient so I understand that nobody really cares about it anymore. It was fun enough to convince me to put away some cash for the next Valve headset though, and afaik both the Vive and the Index work great on Linux.

Welcome to Linux.
Every Linux troon will tell you "it just works" (with xeir distro of choice of course) until it doesn't, which is 90% of the time, then prepare to be gaslighted into you not wanting to do whatever the fuck you're trying to do (usually something simple that actually works flawless everywhere else).
Don't forget to order the HRT and programming socks!

That's been my experience everytime I tried linux. Nothing ever works, every thread out there is filled with people spouting random solutions that don't apply to your flavor of distro. Recommendation you install some random package because the problem vaguely reminded of an issue probably related, only to find out that isn't compatible or its been deprecated with no real alternative. And in the middle of all this you have a bunch of nerds arguing over why their solutions are retarded because they didn't do it the way they would have liked so they start arguing amongst each other over methods while forgetting what the problem was that started the mess.

I hate Linux

OpenHMD has been folded into Monado and any progress about openHMD is on the Monado discord, not on the OpenHMD github.
I think the version you're going to be looking for is going to be here https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/thaytan/monado (branch that is trying to add support for the Rift-S), provided that the 6DoF support for the CV1 isn't already in standard Envision.
I would recommend not trying to fiddle with SteamVR and to just use Envision instead.

I don't know how much it has moved forward since I last tried it and WiVRN is good enough for me that I'm not going to try it, but it's probably still not great.

But I do think EU has a way superior version of win 11 that let's you opt out of a lot of the bullshit either in the works or maybe it's already out? You won't have issues if you don't use certain features.
For instance this french not canadian but canadian youtuber that often showcases benchmarks on linux has been using nvidia GPUs for a while. He has no "issues" other than DX12 performance. But he does not use every feature in his GPU. For instance he never uses VRR at all. He disables that. He uses X11 more often than not. Which is working better on nvidia than Wayland is. Wayland has features X11 doesn't. You have to understand that half of the nvidia linux users you'll find are not using certain features (maybe even because their attached monitor won't support them anyways), so they're content and they don't see the rough edges. A lot of nvidia users don't actually undervolt their GPUs, so it stands to reason that many linux nvidia users wouldn't. So they don't see it a problem not to have a software equivalent to MSI afterburner.

Linux users inhale insane amounts of copium. Linux isn't ready for desktop usage, much less for gaming. Peripheral's software doesn't work for the majority of racing wheels, mice and keyboards, there are plenty of bugs and system freezes, performance in almost all games is way worse, you will still need to use the console try to fix some issues like for example being able to control your fans.
And worse of all some features are absent, don't work properly or straight up don't exist, for example undervolting a GPU.

I think this will be the last Windows PC I have outside of work. I've had to undo the scans and telemetry stuff a few times because it's like updates enable them again and the computer becomes unusable from disc usage. The sad thing is that it ran slower than my max storage older PC with lower specs due to those 'features'.

Idk what I'll do for gaming, I guess I could try a Deck or Chinese ripoff, but I also use the Windows softwares for creative works and game modding, and I'm not too willing to move to Linux for that. Probably would have to keep Windows VM just for the creative stuff if my laptop ever kicked the bucket.

I'm not sure why there's even a debate between OS, if you are a power user who doesn't play league of legends or other kernel level anti-cheat games, Linux is logically the best choice. If you're a basic to intermediate level PC user that plays the aforementioned games, stick to windows.
Linux objectively gives you more control over your operating system, but if you would rather trade control for(at this point, just slightly more) ease of use, then just use windows.

That's been my experience using Windows. Nothing ever works as intended, especially if it involves old programs/games, and the lack of shell support means you spend ages looking for the right GUI or being stuck in Win10's fucking atrocious settings (something the shills never mention for some reason).

But worst of all is the fact that Windows NEVER EVER EVER gives you a proper explanation of what went wrong. All programs come with an error and an arbitrary number that means fucking nothing. In Linux I can just run the fucking command and it tells me what went wrong in the output.
Not to mention the fact that the programs are open source means you can just go to the Github repository and autists will have already found a solution to the bug for freeze. What do you do on Windows? Contact the Indian tech support? Fucking retards, lol.

Arguing about whether Wine is an emulator is such a waste of time. If the Linux user were to concede that Wine is an emulator, then what? What does this imply? That it's one of the lowest-overhead emulators ever made? Cool. I'm not seeing the big insult to Linux. Are we presuming that emulation is somehow "bad" even though this isn't the case anywhere else except Nintendo fanboy threads? Emulation is a good thing. Emulators are based, and no, "emulating" Windows doesn't mean you might as well be using Windows. Never once while playing a game in DOSBox did I feel that it would be better just to install DOS on bare metal. Doing that would be cool as a hobby project if I had some vintage hardware but I don't, nor do I have time for that shit. I will emulate DOS and I will "emulate" Windows, for different reasons but the result is the same: all you can do about it is cope and seethe.
