What this means in practice is that you get a pc like experience with a desktop. When you go to to the turn off menu on a deck, you also have a "Go To Desktop" option, which opens up a desktop and it looks like a windows desktop, its just running linux. Its a full pc, you can do anything a pc can. I have installed GOG games in it for example.

I remember when people said the steam deck was going to be a major player in the gaming space. And it had middling sales at best. I seriously doubt the steambox will fair that much better

The sales of the Steam Deck suck. It's only at like 4M units after 3 years. And isn't it sold at a loss? The PS Vita was a failure with only 15M in sales.

Steam Deck only works cause Valve makes so much fucking money from Steam already that expanding into the hardware business makes sense and it's better to start small and iterate than to bet big all at once. Maybe Steam hardware does grow over time, but it's baby tier right now.

The advertisement reads that it's equal to a 4060 after all the optimization from SteamOS and probably faster memory.

It bumps it up to an RX 7600. More than enough for basic 1080p gaming.
